Washington D. C June 2. The De-
partment of Agriculture estimates in
a report given out this morning that
the area of the cotton planted and yei
to be planted this year will be 4.7
per cent greater than last year which
is an acreage of 35004000. The condi-
tion of the growing crop on May 25th
Is estimated at S7.S of a normal crop
as compared with S0.2 on the same
day lastyear 0.9 Is the ten year av-
erage for that date so that the pres-
ent condition is fully 7 per cent above
the ten year average.

crease over last year. The condition.

past sixteen months in charge of the
money order division of the Sah Luis
Obispo postofflce gave $500 bond In
th'o United States court for her ap
pearance when wanted on the charge
of opening mail addressed to patrons
of the office.
Miss Whitmer is the daughter of B.
F. Whitmer for many years ticket
agent of the Southern Pacific at San
Luis Obispo and now on the retired
list suffering from a second critical
attack of paralysis. He knows nothing
of the trouble in which his daughter
is involved.
. Miss Whitmer .makes no denial. She
will plead guilty to the allegations of
the Indictment as soon as possible1
