TUESDAY SEPTEMBER 12 1916
1916 PRICES.
The farmers of Texas will. not
ibecome rich men this year but
they will undoubtedly make
larger profits thau they realized
;last year. The production of
aae crops has fallen under that
of 1915 but the government fore
cast shows that the cotton crop
will probably be larger than in
1315 and the price is about 75
per cent higher
A summary of the September
crop report by the Federal -Department
of Agriculture shows
some interesting facts:
The production of cotton in
Texas as forecast on September
I will be 3.S00000 bales this year
-against 32274S0 bales last year.
The average price hi Texas on
September 1 was 14.7 cents per
pound and on the same date last!
year the average price was B.S
events per pound.
The production of wheat in
Texas this year is less than that
of last year but the price on Sej)-
tfember 1 this year was $1.37 per
'uusnei against -i.uo per tmsnei on

if everv county is willing to do its
share of the road building; only if
each county is willing to construct
its artery of permanent roadway
These sections of roadway must con
nect to make a continuous Puget"
Sound-to-the-Gulf highway.
The members- of the incoming com-
missioner's court of Tom Green coun-
ty are declared to be progressives In
the highest sense of the word;
It is taken for granted that they
see the worth of an investment in a
permanent roadway such as the one
discussed.
Tom Green county will very prob-
ably be one of "the first to begin con-
struction of this permanent roadway.
How is it with the other counties?
The Standard suggests just in or-
der to set the ball to rolling that
delegates of which at least "one be a
member of the commipsioners court
of his county be appointed to attend
a meeting at San Angclo for the pur-
pose of considering ways and means
to bring about concerted action by the
courts and property owners of all the
counties affected.
Great Britain evidently has
plenty of money despite the long-
continued war. The Bulletin has
received a copy of a booklet
printed in .London and doubtless
distributed all over the world
tolling of "The Murder of -Captain
Fryatt." Captain Fryatt it
seems was master of the steamer
Brussels which unluckily fell
into the clutches of a German tor-
pedo boat. The gallant captain
was tried by a German court mar-
tial and German bullets ended
his career. He was charged witli
attempting to ram and sink- a
German submarine the C-33. The
defense of Captain Fryatt as
published in the booklet is no
doubt fair and proper. But why
circulate such literature in neu
tral America? It is no aftair of
ours if Germany captures and
executes British seamen; it is.no
affair of ours if British seamen at
tempt to ram German submarines.
Then why burden our mails and
confound the minds of our- citi-
zens with such arguments. -
I EGOTISM vs. FACTS
i
Just 16 years ago arrived in Brownwood a Journeyman
tailor among his very limited possessions was an Interna-
i tional Journeymen Tailors Union Card and the only union
5; card ever held in Brownwood. A card good in many
& of the high class trades of Missouri Mississippi Kansas
i Arkansas Tennessee Illinois New York and Texas
and after six months' work in Brownwood. took over
$ the Chas. F. Hill tailoring business. Hence a demit card
after nine years a journeyman to a Merchant. Tailor. Fair
dealing has kept us in Brownwood and during this time
i have seen some of the very experienced Sartorial Artists
- . "sewed up." We are not of the SELFSTYLED ILLUMIN
ATED DESIGNING sort hence never resort to a Dutch -try-out
to deceive union labor and the trade in general.
Our prices are found consistent with the class of work we
turnout. Hence no slop-shop pride and slipshod work with us
egotism being no sign of efficiency.
