S. H Sharp Fort Worth a
carpenter was struck by aJ
freight engine of the Missouri
Kansas & Texas railway com-
pany Friday morning and killed
almost instantly.
Dr. Sherwood B. Ives of New
York an oarsman who accident-
ally shot himself at Albuqurque
plunged the needle with which
he had been vainly probing for
the bullet into a vital organ and
died almost instantly.
The schoolhouse at Pleasant
. Valley three miles south of
Temple was badly damaged by
fire which was caused by a de-
fective metal flue. Half of the
roof was destroyed before the
blaze was extinguished. The fire j
was finally nut out by the stu
dents.
Governor Folk honored the re-
quisition from the governor of
Texas for H. Clay Pierce. Aside
from a telephone conversation
with Governor Folk Attorney J.
D. Johnson representing Pierce
made no showing against the is-
suance of the requisition.
Dr. Baltazar Estupiniana
minister from Salvador and
Honduras received a message
from President Escalon of Salva-
dor futher confirming the report
of the actual outbreak of hostili-
ties between Honduras and Nic-
aragua.
Steel rails for the new railroad
from Stephenville to Hamilton
projected by Stephenville capi-
tal were purchased in Fort Worth
Friday by Bruce Cage of Cage &
Crow bankers of Stephenville.
The total weight of the rails
equaled 4500ltons and the con-
sideration "being $175000. The
contract calls for immediate
shipment.
As far as testimony is concern-
ed the investigation of Senator
Bailey has closed and now it re-
mains to be seen what the house
and the senate committee will
do. Senator Looney announces
that he will offer a resolution for
the senate committee to report
at once.
The Panhandle was in the grip
of winter Friday. At an early
hour a brisk norther began
blowing and it got colder every
minute. For some time unusual
ly pretty weather for the season
has prevailed which resulted m
the greater nortion of the fruit
trees blooming. This cold snap
if severe enough will set the re
maining fruit crop back and
probably save it.
A representative of northern
and eastern parties spent Friday
in Abilene looking into the mat-
ter of establishing a cotton mill
at Abilene. The matter was tak
en ud by the directors of the
20000 club and atfer a full dis-
cussion same was referred to
special committee who reached
a basis of agreement calling for
a $150000 mill.

Childress and the clerks who
went on a strike about a week
ago because the merchants would

of the stores on legal holidays.
The result so far is that the mer-
chants are conducting their busi-
ness at some inconvenience and
the clerks are still out of employment.
Following a raid on an alleged
"blind tiger" liquor shop at
Standford IndM by a sheriff's
posse two stores and the Method-
ist church at Standford were
dynamited early today the
buildings being completely
wrecked. The church building
was blown up shortly before
midnight. A few hours later the
general stores of J. W. jleese
and Shickel & Johnson .were dy-
namited. The two buildings
were destroyed almost simultan-

Mrs. Fannie Kaiser Run Down.
Temple Tex. Feb. 21. In an
accident that occurred at Lam-
pasas Mrs. Fannie Kaiser form-
erly a resident of this city was
injured by being run down by a
locomotive while crossing the
railway track in that city. It is
not known how seriously the
lady was injured. Mrs. Kaiser
was a resident of Temple for
many years but lately has been
making her residence at Humble

Brakeman injured.
Arthur McDonough who braked
on the Santa Fe from here to San
Angelo was painfully injured
yesterday at Miles while making
a cou pling. His hand was caught
between the bumbers and mashed.
The wound did . not incapacitate
him for work but Is very painful.

Thousand Pound Hog.
Chas. Ratliff of the Ratliff meat
market- informs us that he has
just killed a Iiog which weighed
nearly one thousand pounds
gross. The hog was skinned just;
like a beef and when dressed
weighed 702. Mr. Ratliff raised
the hog at his feed pens.
Child Swallowed Carbolic Acid.
On Saturday evening the two
year-old child of Mr. and Mrs. J.
T Rice living in North San
Angelo swallowed a quantity of
carbolic acid and it required
heroic efforts on the part of phy
sicians to save the little -ones
life. The baby suffered tert ibly
for a time and the physicians ex-
pressed the opinion that the
great amount swallowed operat
ed to its advantage at the time
A -smaller amount would have
proven more severe and would
doubtless have killed the child.
