BARN IS BURNED
lieved by Bill Shultz to Have
Been Set on Fire.
OFFICERS ARE TELEPHONED
Bat Distance ia ao Great That Couldn't
Make the Trip in Time to do Good
With the Dogs.
Sheriff Emison received a tele-
phone message from Bill Shultz
who lives two miles south of
Rising Star who reported that
his barn had been destroyed by
fire and that he had reason to
believe the fire was started by
some one who had it in for him.
Sheriff Emison tried to get a
livery team but could not find
n4 tfc go the distance and then
he cried to get an auto to take
tee dogs to the scene of the fire
to see if a trail could be picked
up but the service autos were
out of commission aid so the
project was abandoned.
Mr Shultz reports that he
had considerable corn and hay
in the barn and that it was all a
total loss. There was no insur-
ance on the barn or contents.
The officers expect to look into
the matter and see if there is
any evidence of fire bugs.
This morning Sheriff Emison
directed Deputy Sheriff McBride
of May to go to the scene of the
fire and make investigation and
report to him at once.

Wat Arranged at the Dulci and the
Players Spent Two Hours or More
there Last Night.
One of the most enjoyable oc
casions that it has been the
writers pleasure to attend in
many days was the banquet
given at the Dulci last night by
Captain Timmins to the Elks
foot ball team. Plates were laid
for sixteen guests and all the
invited ones were present by the
hour of 9:30 when an excellent
supper was served. A long
table was arranged in the ladies
dining room and the supper was
served in six courses. If the
boys played well at the game of
foot ball they played even better
at the game of eating and none
were happier than the agreeable
host an d captain.
As the boys ate they indulged
in pleasant conversation and
really some of them the writer
included did not pay attention
to how much they ate. At the
table the games with Howard
Payne and Daniel Baker were
played over again and Sam
Parks and Luther Guthrie volun-
teered bits of their foot ball
experiences. The team as a
whole expressed themselves as
very anxious for another go with
Howard Payne promising the
captain to win over that team if
they could be induced to play
again.
When the supper was over
cigars were Dassed and the boys
very reluctantly left the table
voting Captain Timmins a double
honor of being the best captain
and host they knew of. The
banquet will long be remember
ed by the players and Captain
Timmins will always have their
best wishes.
Arm Crushed Under Car Wheel.
Yesterdav morning at 5:20
o'clock while a Santa Fe switch
engine was pulling the "house-
track" in the south yard Switch-
man R. O. McClure was thrown
from the top of a car a wheel
passing over his arm crushing
it in a frightful manner.
It seems that the unfortunate
man was standing on top of the
last car receiving and giving
signal ; the cars were about to
be backed up but before doing
so they lurched forward throw-
ing him to the center of the
track and before he could get
out of the way the car came
back upon him. the wheel pass
ing over his arm as it lay in a
bent position on the rail and

Believe It a Scheme.
Ed Henley is busily engaged
this week trying to unravel the
mystery of the man with the
dark lantern. He says he has
about come to the conclusion that
its a scheme on the part of the
married ladies to keep their hus-
bands at home at least it has
served pretty well for that pur-
r ose at his house. He says there
are others in the same fix and
proved the statement by V.
Davis who says he can't get out
of the house after dark.
