Toastmaster Mark McGee introduc-
ed B. E. Hiprlbut as'.the "father of
the Glad Hand Banquet." Mr. Hurl-
but related an instance which oc-
curred iir Dallas 35 years ago when
a drummer was scheduled to make an
address at a public gathering. The
people were greatly excited because
in those days drunniiers were regard-
ed with more or' less curiosity and
visits were few- and far between;
furthermore they were not noted for
their piety ani this occasion was a
Sunday school convention. "It is not
ojjr purpose." said Mr. Hurlbut "to
speak to you on a business basis.

rownwood. All local institutions are
helped by the high ideals and the en-
thusiasm and' encouragement of the

here but had rather have the citizen-

the sentiment of all -of us that the

Joe Larkins a negro was hanged

the murder of Jack Jone3 on Febru-
ary 28th. Oh the gallows he declared
that another negro yras guilty of the
crime. Larkin helped this negro by
holding Jones down while the other
beat him to death. Tha hanging was
public and thousands witnessed the

McFarland. one of the best known bi-
cycle riders in the United States died
here tonight as a result of being
stabbed by David Lantisberg. - The
3tabbliig grew out of a personal quar-
rel over signs which Lantisberg had
