Chicago Factory Gives a Most Glowing
Report of the . Shale From the
Brownwood Hills.
D. L). Pitts of Grand view who
has been working With the Fifty
Thousand elnh here is making in-
vestigations of the adaptability
of the shale found in the hills
near town for brick making
purposes arrived in LJroW'nwood
this morning accompanied b. his
wife and wjll .make arrangements
to establish a. big brick plant here
at once. Mr .Pitts brought with
him some of the sample" bnck
which were made of the Brown
wood shale and every one who
has seen' them declare that no
better brick were ever made
The bricks' are of a beautiful red
color and heavier than any now
sold here and. ring like steel when
struck -with metal.
The factory committee is work-
ing with. Mr. Pitts today and it is
likely that ho will secure a loca-
tion for a plant' and organize a
stock company at once. The re-
port of the brick manufacturers
who made the samples is a fol-
lows and it is doubtful if ever-a
more highly satisfactory report
was made to any one:
"Chicago 111.; Aug. 30. 'lHOT.

a highly complimentary report
I rom the results ot the." tests.
This means that Brown wood will
undoubtedly become a center for
brick factories as other" ijicn are
now making tests for themselves
and as soon a.s they arc satisfied
of the quality of tlie shale;. will
locate big factories here. Mr.
Pitts is at Work tnday- with the.
factory committee and. will ho
doubt be. ready within the next
thr.ee days to return home and
sell his entire property interests
there and move to Brownwood
for his future home.
This is one of the .first 'enter?
prises which the Fifty Thousand
club began work oh. The secre-
tary inserted a !."). cents want ad
in the. Dallas News stating" that
there was an abundance of good
brick shale in the hills jiear
Brownwood and that the Fifty
Thousand club wanted to locate
factories here. Mr. Pitts wanted
to move to Brownwood anyhow
and seeing the ad came and inves
tigated the shale. The result is
now in doubt. Brownwood
