Six Negroes Beaten by Greenbury Mob
Following Attack on Woman.
Greenbury Ind. May 1. The
bitter feeling against the negroes
as a result of an assault on Mrs.
Sefton. an aged white woman
last Saturday night caused a
race riot here last night. Six
negroes were badly beaten one
of whom may die. The mob was
formed by three wniie men and
rapidly incaeased to r00. All
the saloons and other places fre-
quented by negroes were visited
and the furniture and fixtures
were demolished. Negroes
found in these places were bea -en
and warned to leave town.
The authorities finally induced
the crowd to disperse after prom
ising that all negroes of bsi char-
acter win be compelled to leave.
Many negioes have a're dy de-
parted and others will be no. -lied
by the police ta leave. No
arrests were made.

Carroll B. Short of Center is Shot to
Death in Pretence of Many Passen-
gers by San Angelo Man.
Beaumont Tex. April 30
Cairoll B. Short a well-known
attorney of Center Tex was
shot to death on the Santa Fe
train tonight ae the train was en-
tering the town of Center. The
shooting was done by Dr. Buck
Paul of San Angelo. Mr. Short
had been down the road today
and wae returning home tonight.
He occupied a rear seat in tha
smoking car and just before the
train stopped Dr. Paul who was
in the forward part of the car
arose and went to the rear end of
the ooach and when opposite Mr.
Short pulled his pistol and began
firing at Mr. Short. Six shots
were fired five of whioh struck
the victim. Three entered the
