PROCLAMATION
The Fourth of July will mark the 196th anniversary of the founding of our
nation. As we celebrate this historic date, our nation is faced with its great-
est challenge; a burgeoning population, restless youth impatient for fulfill-)
ment of our nation's ideals, demands for greater civil rights, and the sapping
of our country's moral strength through increased crime, drug abuse and
poverty.
i
Communities throughout the nation are declaring this Independence Day,
July 4th, as a day to "Honor America" in an effort to encourage an expres-
sion of appreciation for the blessings and greatness of our country.
^It is the opinion of this office that this activity should be recognized as an
effort to unite Americans at a time when our patriotism and respect for the
nation's purposes should be encouraged by all responsible citizens.
Therefore, by virtue of the powers vested in this office, i as Mayor of our
city do hereby proclaim Tuesday, July 4, 1972, as "Honor America Day"
and call upon all citizens, organizations, churches, schools and lay groups
to recognize this special day through appropriate programs.
Signed in the City of 6iS y this date of 1972.
Judy Feagin
On Dean's List
Miss Judy Feagin, Wylie
student at Texas Tech
University, has qualified
for the dean's honor list
for the 1972 spring
semester.
To qualify for the honor
list a student must be
enrolled in 12 semester
hours of course, exclud-
ing pass-fail courses,
and have at least a 3.0
grade point average.
Miss Feagin is the daugh-
ter of Mr. and Mrs. F.D.
Feagin of Wylie and a
graduate of the local high
school.
PERSONAL.
Mr. and Mrs. Harold G.
Lord of San Bernardino,
California, flew in a few
days ago in their plane
to visit with relatives and
friends in the Wylie and
Garland area. Mrs. Lord
is the former Merle Lacy
of Wylie. On their trip
to this area, they stopped
in Houston, Texas, a few
days for a convention and
reported a lovely time
there. They were escourt-
ed on several sight-seeinc
tours and enjoyed an old
time Texas Barbecue. It
was a pleasure having
these folks visit the Lone
Star State, and we look
forward to another visit
soon.

is coming

July 2
0+ dialing lets you enjoy the speed and conven-
ience of dialing ALL of your own long distance calls
—including those requiring operator handling.
You now have 1+ dialing which enables you to
dial all of your station-to-station calls at the lower
dial-it-yourself rate. And beginning July 2, you will
be able to dial your own operator handled calls such
as person-to-person, third number billing, credit card
and collect.
To use 0+, simply dial O, plus the area code (if
different from 214), plus the number.
When the operator asks for the special service
you need, tell her:
The name of the person you are calling
(if person-to-person)
That the call is collect and your name
(if collect)
Your credit card number (if a credit card call)
The third number where the call will be billed
(if third number billing)
The operator will then send your call on its way
—all much faster since other information is auto-
matically recorded when you dial-it-yourself.
If you have any questions about 0+ please call
our telephone business office at 272-0511. We at
General Telephone will be glad to help you.
