presented along with a letter of nomination
by Dr, Douglas. This information will be
reviewed by a five-member TASA
committee that will select the Outstanding
School Board in Texas and name three
regional winners as Honor Boards for the
year.
"I am personally proud to work with and
for the "1977 Outstanding School Board of
North Texas," Dr. Douglas said. "I
consider our school district fortunate to
have each of these gentlemen serving in
this capacity. Whether they receive an
award at the state level or not, this board is
a 'winner'."
In his letter of nomination Dr. Douglas
said, "After having served this school
district for three years, I am convinced this
Board is dedicated to serve the needs of the
students. The Garland Independent School
District has also provided a real challenge
to school board members because of its
rapid growth since 1950. Although the
school population has grown from 1,500 to
30,000 during the past 25 years, adequate
school plants and facilities as well as
excellent teachers, have been provided and
continue to be provided for our city and its
student population."
