MURPHY COUNTRY FAIR
September 17.
Bobbie and Jeff Htwell will draw the winning ticket for this beautiful handmade quilt
If you've never been to an old-fashioned,
small-town country fair, here's your
chance to see what you've been missing.
Memories of bygone days will be brought to
mind on September 17 at the fourth annual
Murphy Country Fair, held from 10:00 til
6:00 at the Community Center. The town of
Murphy is located five miles east of Piano
on FM 544 and is a ranch estate community
of 1500 people. The entire community is
involved in making it a success. This year
the proceeds will be used to buy equipment
for the Murphy Fire Department, one of the
area's finest volunteer units, and to support
various community projects.
Artists and craftsmen from all over the
surrounding areas will offer paintings,
macrame, wrought iron, appliqued cloth-
ing and assessories, needlework, toys,
jewelry, ceramics, porcelain and many
other hand-made and custom-made wares.
The "What's Your Handle" CB club will
have an interesting table to delight one and
all. The women's Club will have a bake
table, featuring homemade breads,
cookies, cakes and other goodies, and after
the pie contest is judged that morning,
slices of the homemade pies will also be
sold. To further tempt you, the Calico
Kitchen will be serving nachos, Frito pie,
hot dogs and chili dogs, etc., throughout the
day. Madge Daniel will raffle a beautiful

It's Up to You
LADIES AUXILIARY ENJOY MEXICAN BUFFET
Laugh a little — sing a little
As you go your way!
Work a little — play a little
Do this every day!
Give a little — take a little,
Never mind a frown —
Make your smile a welcomed thing
All around the town!
Laugh a little — love a little,
Skies are always blue!
Every cloud has silver linings,
But it's up to you.

Sachse Christian Preschool will begin
classes August 29. We have fourteen 3,4 and
5 year olds enrolled. The first couple of
weeks will be devoted to getting to know
each other and getting adjusted to the class
schedule.
We have lots planned for the year. Each
day will consist of singing, finger plays,
games, records, puzzles, art and music.
Each month we will go on a fieldtrip and
throughout the year we will study different
units. Sometimes we will have a special
activity such as making candy or baking
cookies. We are all looking forward to
learning and having fun. If you have any
questions about our preschool, contact
Janet Hughs, Director, at 495-1266.

Plastic covers from coffee cans
are wonderful to use under small
flower pots. They can be dressed
up by placing colored paper or
foil between two covers. This
also helps keep them from sweat-
ing. Best of all, these covers
won't scratch surfaces.
Tired of having scouring pads
rust? Dip the article to be clean-
ed in the water, and use the dry
pad to clean it. By using this
method, you can use the pads
until all the soap is gone, and the
pad never becomes rusty.
Save your nylons! If you take
four or five old nylon stockings,
hold them up by the toes so they
will be the same length, then tie

ever saw! They are great for
washing the tub, scouring the
fixtures and even washing the
dishes. They make the best
cleaning rag when scouring the
sink with cleansers, etc. You can
make these helpful gadgets with
as many or few old nylons as you
wish and can cut the ends the
length you want.
Need a round tablecloth and
napkins? Try making one from a
flowered bed sheet, size 81" x
108". Cut off one end (the one
with the wide hem). Then cut
this strip in half and sew two
seams in each. Presto! a pair of
pillow slips.
Then, with a pencil on a string,
trace and cut a circle 15" larger
than your table. Hem the circle
and sew ball fringe around it.
You will have enough material
left from the edges of the sheet
for four small napkins. You can
fringe out on the edges. Result:
One large round tablecloth, one
pair of pillow slips, and four
luncheon-size napkins for the
price of one sheet.
