Henderson, Gartex Honored

Named Sachse's Business Man of the Year by the Chamber of Commerce is City Manager Lloyd

Sachse City Manager Lloyd
Henderson was named man of
the year and Gartex Con-
struction was selected as
business of the year Thursday
night at the annual Sachse
Chamber of Commerce Ban-
quet at the Sheraton Hotel,
LBJ and Jupiter Rd., Dallas.
Business service awards
were presented to Gene
Parrish, Lone Star Gas Co.,
and Randy Arp, TU Electric
Co.
The spirit of Sachse award
went to the Sachse Volunteer
Fire Department.
Criteria for selection of the
honorees (with the exception
of the Fire Department) was
based on service to the
Sachse Chamber of Com-
merce.
Henderson was cited for his
service as Chamber treasurer,
his work on the Economic
Development Committee and
Market Awareness Commit-
tee, and his efforts towards
helping to obtain flak jackets
for the police department and
helping to finance attendance
by Sachse firemen at a fire
school at Texas A&M Univer-
sity.
Gary and Sue Kinser, own-
ers of the family-operated
Gartex Construction, accept-
ed their plaque on behalf of
the family and employees.
Gartex was singled out for
building the Chamber of Com-
merce Fallfest booth, assist-
ing with the first annual
Sachse Chamber of Com-
merce Golf Tournament, and
for serving on the Ambassa-
dor Committee.
In his acceptance speech,
Kinser said, "It is compliment-
ary to my employees and I am
particularly pleased for my
son . . . Maybe one of these

Parrish the past year served
as chairman of the Economic
Development Committee, was
active on the Chamber of
Commerce board of directors,
and was heavily involved in

ment. He currently is working
on a brochure to help
promote the City of Sachse.
The Sachse Volunteer Fire
Department was cited for its
total commitment to the City
of Sachse.
Chief Jack Yates, in accept-
ing the plaque on behalf of
the Fire Department, said,
"We stand ready 24 hours a
day, seven days a week." He
then introduced some
members of the Fire Depart-
ment, including Fireman of
the Year Doug Kendrick.
One other presentation was
made: a plaque to outgoing
president Gary Overby from
incoming president Mike Mur-
phy.
The 1989 board was intro-
duced, including vice presi-
dent-elect Mark Reynolds and
treasurer Henderson. Others:
Ray Turner, Parrish, Arp,
Duana Yates, Kinser, and
Joyce Yandry.
Murphy elaborated on
Chamber of Commerce plans
for 1989 (published in last
week's Sachse Sentinel) and
praised the Chamber's mem-
bership for being "doers."
"Volunteer service can
change the way of life for ev-
eryone -- the only way to get
things done is to be brave and
bold . . . We'ie blessed to
have that kind of group,"
Murphy said.
Guest speaker was Terry
Dorsey, a 20-year veteran of
broadcasting who recently
was named winner of the
Country Music Broadcaster of
the Year award.
