Sachse Council Okays Garland Ambulance Service Contract
By SHELLEY BIDWELL
We have faced enormous
pressures from teachers,
parents, and even other
students as we prepared for
finals. During exam week in
mid-January, freshmen got
their first taste of
open-campus lunch and
seniors tasted real compe-
tition for class ranking. School
was out Friday for a three-day
weekend which allowed
teachers to grade tests and
students to forget about them.
The hassle of schedule
changes haunts many of us as
the new semester begins.
Whether it's a change from
study hall to economics or
trig to health, the daily pace
has been disturbed and we
must all rearrange our daily
habits and activities.
Meetings are still a big part
in the daily lives of many
students. In the last National
Honor Society meeting, the
annual Wadley Blood Drive
was planned for Feb. 23 at
the school.
The Fellowship of Christian
Athletes' state convention
was held at Harvey House in
Addison Jan. 13-15 with Steve
Pelleur of the Cowboys as
featured speaker. Rachel
Weddle and Shelley Bidwell
attended from WHS along
with some 400 other students.
This weekend the annual
Celebrity Ball will take place
in the cafeteria and class
favorites, Most School Spir-
ited and Senior Superlatives
will be announced. Avatar,
WHS student group, will play
and an air-band contest will
be held.
With basketball's district
season well on its way,
Tuesday and Friday nights
are action-packed. The Lady
Pirates play at 6:30 and the
men follow.
Memorial Service
Set for Marjorie Orr
Memorial services will be
held at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at
Allen's Chapel in Wylie for
Marjorie B. Orr, who died Jan.
16 in Wylie. The Rev. Al
Draper will conduct the
service.
She is survived by her
husband, Robert W. Orr,
Wylie; and sisters, Emily
Moen, Phoenix, and Catherine
Talley, North Plainfield, NJ.
In executive session
Monday night, the Sachse
City Council discussed the
latest findings on Sachse's
wastewater treatment con-
tract with the City of Garland,
and in its regular open
meeting that same night, the
Council voted to allocate
$4,000 toward an ambulance
service contract.
"Sachse and Rowlett
recently presented Garland
with our consultant's utility
rate report and the two cities
asked Garland to respond to
the report's findings," said
Mayor Larry Holden.
"Consultations with our
attorneys in Austin and Dallas
and a joint executive session
of the Sachse and Rowlett
City Councils are our next
two steps," the mayor said.
The Council unanimously
approved using $4,000 to
initiate a short-term contract
with Central Ambulance
Service, Garland.
"We have been working with
Central on a per-run basis,
and we're impressed with
their performance and their
cooperative attitude," said
Councilman Chris Jacobsen,
who is assistant fire marshal
for Sachse's Volunteer Fire
Department.
The Council also discussed
changes in the city's subdivi-
sion ordinance; received a
report from the computer
committee concerning system
upgrade; authorized the city
manager to execute an
agreement with Santa Fe
Railroad to use railroad-
owned property for city
beautification purposes; and
adopted the city auditor's
financial report for fiscal year
1987-'88.
