George Richards, owner of North Side Grocery on Ballard
Street, is this month's recipient of the Business of the Month
plaque presented by Wylie Chamber of Commerce Tuesday at
the meeting at Maria's. Richards opened his store three years
ago and My- T- Quick in Murphy a year and a half ago. A native
of Wylie, he learned the business from his father, the late Guy
Richards. He worked with him in the meat market business 25
years. Richards and his wife, Nancy, have four daughters and
seven grandchildren.

Constitution Week
Poster Winners Named
Lindsey Jenneman, first
grader at Birmingham, and
second grader Sillie London,
Akin, took top prize ribbons
among first and second grade
entries in the recent
Constitution Week poster
contest.
Runners-up in the first
grade category were Heather
Rude, Akin, and Joel
Henderson, Birmingham.
Second and third places in
the second grade went to
Cody Lanus, Akin, and Angela
Payne, Hartman.
Fund-Raiser to Benefit
Counseling Institute
Studebaker's Dallas will be
the site from 5 p.m. to
midnight Oct. 11 for the
second annual fund-raiser for
the Counseling Institute of
Texas, a non-profit commu-
nity counseling agency in
Garland.
The Center provides
counseling on a sliding fee
basis for a variety of issues
affecting children.
For a donation of $5 at the
club at Park arid Central
Expressway, guests will re-
ceive an all-you-can-eat
buffet dinner, two free drinks
(non-alcoholic included),
chance at prizes, and entry in
a dance contest. For further

North Texas Eye Center
Opens This Week in Wylie
Craig Schacherer, doctor of says, "Most binocular vision
optometry, and his associate, problems detected between
Lewis Frazee, M.D., opened
North Texas Eye Center this
week at Physicians Plaza,
adjacent to Physicians Re-
gional Hospital in Wylie.
Besides, performing routine
eye exams, Dr. Schacherer,
who has special training in
ocular health, contact lenses
and low-vision disorders, will
offer an extensive selection of
contact lenses and eyewear.
A native of Graettinger,
Iowa, he received a doctorate
from Ferris State University
College of Optometry. He is a
member of the American
Optometric Association.
He is particularly interested
in athletic and pediatric vision
problems. "Most junior high,
high school and college
athletes do not realize how
closely visual performance is
tied with athletic perfor-
mance."
Studying a local women's
collegiate tennis team, Dr.
Schacherer found that the
level of the participants'
ocular motility corresponded
directly with their level of
performance on the courts.
Pediatric eye examinations
are also of the utmost

training or glasss. After
seven, it is difficult to regain
any lost vision from disorders
such as amblyopia commonly
known as 'lazy eye'."
Dr. Schacherer also is
proficient in diagnosing and
monitoring cataracts, glau-
coma diabetic retinopathy^)
and retinal degeneration. ^
Dr. Frazee, a board-certified
opthalmologist, received a
doctorate from the University
of Louisville Medical School in
Kentucky. He completed four
years of internship and
residency at Northwestern
Memorial Hospital in Chicago.
He has had an office in
Piano and has been an
associate clinical professor of
ophthalmology at South-
western Medical School for
the past eight years.
Concentrating on medical
and surgical diseases of the
eye, he uses laser techniques
for diabetes, glaucoma and
retinal degeneration.
Dr. Frazee also brings
expertise in the field of
cataract surgery to Wylie at
Physicians Regional Hospital.
Scouting Programs
Growing in Wylie
Twenty three boys, ages
8-10, joined Pack 304 as Cub
Scouts and 19 first graders
joined the Tiger Cub program
this month in Wylie. The
announcement comes from
Cubmaster Robert Anderson.
Two new dens were formed
for the Cubs with Don White
and Larry Allen as leaders for
the new Wolf Den and Mary
Raynor and Wayne Daniel
serving as leaders for the
new Bear Den. All leaders
joined the pack Tuesday,
Sept. 19.
Tiger Cub leaders are Bryan
Harris and Pam Mathews, who
will be assisted by Tiger
leader coach Bob Nestor.
Also signing up were
several adult volunteers •
Larry Hammerton, assistant
cubmaster; James Suther-
land, den leader coach; and
Janet Petrie, membership
chairman. Former Tiger
leaders Pam Hammeiton and
Debra Leverington will be
leaders for Cubs who were
Tigers last year.
