New Sachse Library Takes
Another Step Toward Reality
Winners in Sunday's Easter Egg Scramble eight-to-10 year-old category at Salmon Park were,
left to right, Corrie Tanner, Katie Weakley, and Andy Carpenter. Their prizes were presented by
Mayor Larry Hoi den.
The new Sachse Public Lib-
rary took another step toward
reality -- and the Sachse Fire
Department's fundraising ef-
forts culminated in a new
support vehicle -- during
Monday night's regular
Sachse City Council meeting.
"We passed a resolution of
intent to issue certificates of
obligation to fund a library
and police building, but that is
not the same thing as actually
issuing the certificates. A lot
of details need to be worked
out oetore we get to that
point," explained Mayor Larry
Holden.
"The Council voted to give
notice of its intention to issue
certificates of obligation in an
amount not to exceed
$350,000," Holden added.
"Right now we are sure we
are going to issue at least
$120,000 of that amount for
the library.
"How much more than that
figure we eventually issue
depends on many factors now
being considered. We are
looking hard at all the
financial aspects of construct-
ing a 2,000 square foot
'starter' police facility.
"We saved about $5,000 in
processing fees by starting
with the higher amount of
$350,000 and then dropping
down to what we actually will
need, rather than starting
with a low figure and going
up. That's the world of
finance for you," Holden said.
Sachse Fire Chief Jack
Yates and a number of
Sachse Fire Department
members presented the
Council with the title to a new
personnel carrier fire scene
support vehicle.
"The almost $20,000
vehicle was paid in full by
funds raised during the last
year and half by the firemen
and the Sachse Fire Depart-
ment Auxiliary," Yates noted.
"We were able to get this
much-needed piece of equip-
ment without spending one
cent of city funds. The vehicle
represents the 'can-do' spirit
of the members of the Fire
Department."
The specially-configured
1990 Ford F350 diesel has an
extended cab to transport
firemen to the fire scene and
a service utility bed to carry
support equipment, such as
fans, hoses, air tanks and
medical supplies.
Holden summed up: "It is this
kind of consistent 'going be-
yond the call of duty' effort
that makes the Sachse Fire
Department one of our city's
finest assets. We should be
proud we've got the best."
In other action, the Council:
--Approved a request from
Dennis and Shannon Bishop
to construct a pond at 6704
Valley View Lane;
--Instructed staff to draft an
ordinance terminating the
nonconforming use of
property near Merrit Rd. and
Pleasant Valley Rd. owned by
Jessie Ray Drain. The Council
informed Drain that his list of
code violations and health/
safety-related improvements
must be resolved or the
ordinance will be considered
at the May 21 meeting of the
Council;
--Approved a request from
the city staff to purchase
computer equipment for the
Municipal Service Center.
Alert Sachse Officer
Apprehends Suspects
With Stolen Trailer
Cpl. S.L. Craighead of the
Sachse Police Department on
April 10 apprehended two
men in a pickup truck who
were pulling a 32-foot horse
trailer with three horses on
Hwy. 78.
Craighead thought the trail-
er looked like one purchased
by a friend within the week.
After stopping the suspects
for no trailer registration,
Craighead discovered the
truck had been reported
stolen in Dallas.
Further investigation reveal-
ed the trailer actually
belonged to Craighead's friend
and the three horses in the
trailer had been stolen from a
stable on North Star in Rich-
ardson.
Neither the trailer nor the
horses had been reported
stolen.
