$11.9 million for the same period
last year.
"The earnings improvement
resulted primarily from increased
oilfield products shipments and the
abatement of $3.3 million in interest
expense which is suspended during
bankruptcy," Judith Merrill said. "In
the first six months of this year,
revenues were $145.5 million and
net earnings were $7.2 million. That
compares favorable to the first six
months of last year, which saw LSS
with revenues of $150 million and
net losses of $29.8 million."
John Harbin, Chairman of the
Board and Chief Executive Officer,
noted that the company's manage-
ment is pleased with continued im-
provements in operations of all prin-
cipal subsidiaries. He cautioned,
however, that the outcome of LSS'
bankruptcy, including environmental
issues, and Lone Star Technologies
continuing equity interest in LSS
remain uncertain pending the nego-
tiation and confirmation of a reor-
ganization plan for the steel plant.

cleaned in 20 years," he said. "So
we brought in a truckload of new
sand and they're doing real good
now.
While the water is clean and clear
again, the sides and bottoms of the
pool remain discolored. But the
mayor says that compares to stains
that people get in the bottoms of
their bathtubs and sinks. Painting
helps, but the stains are caused by
elements in the water and chemi-
cals used to treat it.
"I think we've got the problem
solved," said Penny Markos, pool
manager. "The filter system is work-
ing, the right chemicals are being
used in the right quantity and things
are finally going good."
She said the pool will be in opera-
tion past the school starting dates of
Aug. 28. "I'm going to stay open as
long as the weather lets me,"
Markos said. "Right now, I'm work-
ing on something where we'll be
open on weekends and maybe a
couple of days a week after school."
She also said that beginning
Thursday, Aug. 2, the pool will open
from 6-8 p.m. each Thursday and
Friday for adults only.
Pool hours are from 1-6 p.m.,
seven days a week.
