-Keeping up with the steadily growing demand for
low-cost electric power is not an easy job, but South-
western Gas and Electric Company is putting more
electric horsepower to work as fast as possible.
Construction work began in July on our new Knox
Lee generating plant in East Texas. The first 47,000
horsepower generating unit will be in operation in 1950.
In the meantime work of installing a second 33,500
horsepower unit in the new Lieberman plant is under
way. It will be running early in 1949.
This added electric power is just a part of Southwest-
ern's $30,000,000 five-year construction and expansion
program. Unable to build during four war years, your
electric company has been driving full speed ahead sinc^i
the war to meet the needs for more and more power in
a growing Southwest
It's a tough job during times of high prices and
delays in delivering materials. But more electric horse-
power is on the way. And more horsepower means more
jobs, more production and better living.-
