Charles E. Duryea as being the
pioneer builder of gar,-driven auto- j
mobiles in this country. Duryea,
still living in Philadelphia, was a
noted bicyclist in his young man-
hood and owned a "bicycle built
for two" on w.'iich he did much
of hLs courting. He v.'ns married
in 1884. Ills wife is still living.
Duryea began his experiments with
gas-driven vehicles in the iate 70s
continuing until he manufactured
car under his name.

Governor of Texas, regardless of
