Akin Elementary - Sawyer Netner
Sawyer possesses all the characteristics of a stu-
dent with a strong sense of responsibility. Sawyer is
always prepared and goes above and beyond in all
that he does. He is also a great help to others when-
ever he can. He is a very responsible student.

Birmingham Elementary - Preston Trueblood
Preston always has his planner signed and home-
work completed. He always takes the initiative and
does what he is supposed to be doing.

Cox Elementary - Sydney Segrest
Sydney is an excellent student that exhibits all our
character counts traits here at Cox. She is responsible
with her work and always very respectful to her
classmates and students. Sydney often goes out of
her way to be kind and assist other students in her
class. She can be counted on to do the right thing day
in and day out.

Dodd Elementary - Trista Clark
One of the expectations at Dodd Elementary is
"Dodd Dinosaurs are responsible at all times." That
is Trista Clark. She is such a wonderful young lady.

Groves Elementary - Victoria Kinyk
Victoria is a wonderful role model for her peers
and younger students at Groves. She follows all
teachers' directions and school rules without being
told. She keeps her desk and classwork organized.

Hartman Elementary - Isabella Poy
Isabella is a student who exhibits responsibility in
everything she does at school. She knows what she is
supposed to do and she does it. If she doesn't know

and then she does it. She is a true joy to teach.

Smith Elementary - Kaylee Arellanes
Kaylee uses perseverance, self-control, and self-
discipline in her everyday tasks, even when no one is
looking! She has great leadership characteristics and
sets a great example in our classroom. Kaylee thinks
before she acts and considers the effects of her choic-
es. Kaylee shows with her actions that she under-
stands what responsibility is all about!

Tibbals Elementary - Gillian Brandt
Gillian was chosen as the Star Student because she
is always an excellent example to other students.

Watkins Elementary - Arlin Granados
Arlin exemplifies what it means to be responsible.
She always tries her best no matter what we are doing
in the classroom. She takes ownership of her
actions and never blames it on anybody else. Arlin
takes care of her business and work and helps to
remind others to be responsible for themselves as
well.

Whitt Elementary - Chelsea Akanna
Chelsea is a very responsible student. She is an
eager, happy learner who always helps others and the
teacher. She is a hard worker in class and always has
her work completed. Chelsea is a wonderful role
model of responsibility to the rest of the students.

Davis Intermediate - Sebastian Vargas
Sebastian has kicked this first six weeks off at
Davis with a BANG! He finds little ways to make
others feel good about themselves and does it in a
real and genuine way. His work ethic is top notch,
and he always comes to class with a smile. He's a stu-
dent even teachers can look up to.

Davis Intermediate - Shingirai Chingaya
Shingi is a student who consistently displays
responsible and polite behavior at Davis to both
adults and peers. He possesses strong leadership
skills and displays a caring demeanor toward those
around him. As a member of KC Club, Shingi leads
by example and always brightens the day with his
smile and positive attitude.

Draper Intermediate - Rabya Sajjad
Rabya is a wonderful student with such a sweet
spirit and responsible character. She is always perse-
vering and striving to stay focused and on task while
in class. Rabya has a compassionate heart toward
others and looks for every opportunity to help anoth-
er. I can count on her at all times, and she treats her
fellow teachers and students with nothing but utmost
respect. She is a star in my eyes!

Harrison Intermediate - Jeffery Whitson
Jeffery was chosen as the Harrison Star Student
for responsibility because he is a very trustworthy
student. He can always be counted on to turn his
work in on time and to meet or exceed his teachers'
expectations in the classroom. Jeffrey is always will-
ing to help out wherever he is needed.

Burnett JHS Ivy LaPorte
Ivy is the President of our campus Friends of
Rachel Club. She is kind, considerate and extremely
dependable. Ivy exemplifies the character trait of
responsibility by being a good example to others and
leading them to do good for the community and
school.

Cooper JHS - Allison Nguyen
Allison always makes sure she has everything she
needs for class and keeps up with all assignments,
corrections, and any missing assignments on her
own. She also helps other students who need help.

McMillan JHS Mariah Martin
Mariah is always prepared for class and goes
above and beyond the required amount. Her home-
work and assignments are well organized, and she
can find any paper when required. She is a model
student.

Josh is always demonstrating responsibility by
taking care of his own business and finding time to
help others in class. He works in the technology
department for our school and does a great job. Josh
is already taking steps for his future, and it is so

Wylie EHS - Tori Warren
Tori is involved in many activities, both in and
out of school, yet she seems to always do the things
she is supposed to. It never ceases to amaze me how
responsible she is. Tori has a giving heart and is will-
ing to help anyone who needs it She is a special
young lady.

Wylie HS - Alex Brontl
Alex works hard in my class and is tenacious in
striving to be responsible. He is always accountable
for his decisions and perseveres.

Alexa is determined to graduate from high school
and set a good example for her daughter. She shows
responsibility by e-mailing for her assignments
whenever she must be absent so that she can keep up
her grades. I'm proud of Alexa.
Achieve Academy/Choice HS -
Edith Bretado
Edith works very hard so that she can graduate.
She intends to continue her education by enrolling in
the dental assistant program at Collin College in
January. She is always on time, works diligently, and
never loses her willingness to help her classmates.

School Notes
At 11 a.m. Oct. 27, Wylie ISD
will host a ceremonial ground-
breaking for the new Achieve
Academy.
This campus, currently
housed in portable buildings,
serves all WISD students grades
kindergarten through 12 who are
challenged in tradition class-
room environments. It includes
Choice High School, the BAU
and Transition to Life programs.
The new location will be 400
Pirate Dr. near the Rita and
Truett Smith Public Library and
Burnett Junior High.
Smith Elementary School stu-
dents are collecting soda cans for
the Wylie Senior Center. The
seniors use the proceeds from
recycling for special outings.
Smith students are also col-
lecting pet supplies for the Wylie
Animal Shelter.
Items can be dropped off at
the school library.

Akin Elementary's Fall Chili
Cook-Off and Carnival will be
from 5 to 8 p.m. Oct. 21.
Wylie High School's Health
Occupations Students of
America group is collecting the
pink breast cancer lids found on
Yoplait and Dannon brands of
yogurt now through Dec. 15.
Pink painted collection boxes
are in the school cafeteria, the
front office and Room 415.
Lids may also be sent via reg-
ular mail or campus mail to
WHS, c/o Wylie ISD, P.O. Box
490, Wylie, TX 75098,
Attention: Kathy Coleman.
Organizers ask that all lids be
rinsed and dried prior to placing
in the boxes.
The Wylie Sports Hall of
Honor will induct three former
Pirates standouts into the 2010
class.

Paul Drummond, class of 1970;
and Bobby Skipwith, class of
1950, will be inducted during an
Oct. 15 luncheon.

Hartman fall carnival
slated for Oct 30
Hartman Elementary will
hold its fall carnival from I to 4
p.m. Saturday, Oct. 30.
There will be carnival-style
games, concessions, a pump-
kin-decorating contest, costume
contest, vendor fair, and a silent
auction.
Vendor space is still available
for $25; vendors keep all prof-
its, organizers said.

of 2000 is planning a 10-year
reunion the weekend of Oct 15.
In addition to the reunion, a
section of the Wylie football
stadium has been reserved for
the Wylie High School vs.
Wylie East football game set for
7 p.m. Oct. 15.

grads planning reunion
The Wylie High School
classes of the 1950s will gather
from 1 to 6 p.m. Oct. 30 in the

East FFA boosters
putting cars on display
The Wylie East FFA Booster
Club is holding a car show start-
ing at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 16.
Registration ends and judging
begins at 2 p.m.
Proceeds will benefit the East
FFA program and assist the stu-
dents with costs associated with
attending the Collin County
Show and Sale and the Wylie
Show and Sale in the spring,
along with general Ag barn
needs.
Cost to enter is $ 15 per car or
$10 per motorcycle. There are
craft and vendor spaces avail-
able for $50.
The show will be held on the
parking lot at Wylie East High
School, 3000 Wylie East Dr.
In case of rain, the car show
will be held Oct. 23.
Whitt PTA working itself
into Fall Frenzy
Whitt Elementary is having
its Fall Frenzy carnival from 5
to 8 p.m. Oct. 22.
There will be food, infiata-
bles and more than 30 booths
with games and activities.
Tickets are four for $1 and will
be available at the event.

Akin Elementary's PTA will
host a Fall Festival and Chili
Cook-Off from 5 to 8 p.m. Oct.
21.
There will also be a silent
auction.
Entry is $5 each (with a max-
imum of $25 per family) and
includes a chili dinner (hot dogs
for kids), drink and the games.

WHS seniors selling
fall decor
Parents of Wylie High School
seniors are selling pumpkins,
gourds and mini hay bales, per-
fect for fall decorating.
Funds raised at the sale will
go to finance the traditional sen-
ior lunch held in conjunction
with graduation rehearsal.
The sale will be from 9 a.m.
to noon, Saturday, Oct. 23, in
the front parking lot of Wylie
High School.
