After long-time honorary Pirate
trainer and Special Olympian
Donnie Worthington died in
September, area citizens began
donating funds to create a scholar-
ship in his name.
On Nov. 29, the date that would
have been Donnie's 52nd birthday,
the Wylic ISD Education
Foundation announced that the
money raised has totaled $ I 1,000;
in order for the scholarship to be
self-sustaining, $10,000 was need-
ed. Reaching this threshold means
that a student will be provided with
a scholarship as early as this spring
and in years to come without addi-
tional donations.
l Kathy LaMere, Donnie's sister,
"said the effort had been "awesome."
"I want to thank the people of
Wylie and also all the people outside
of the city," she said. "I have

This has been
a most exciting
week. As you all
know, the insur-
ance companies
are wide open
now and want-
ing your busi-
ness during this
open enrollment
period until Dec.
31. This is where you hear about
all the companies, ask your ques-
tions and hear the answers. This is
much easier than having each of
these representatives in your
home. You get to hear everyone's
questions and answers and perhaps
things you would not have thought
about. We have had some very
jolly sessions. Most all of these
sessions have included lunch and
that makes the "medicine" go
down a little better. Don't change
insurance companies il you are
satisfied with what you have.
Don't change insurance companies
if you are still on your company's
insurance and are satisfied with
your coverage. You should always
check to see what is available and
what the price ranges are and com-
pare them to your needs and
income. It never hurts to compare.
Richardson Regional treated us
to a lovely lunch on Wednesday
but the scheduled program was not
available, so we dined and enjoyed
the socializing.
Here it is the beginning of
December, and we are into the lull
mode of shopping and gift wrap-
ping. We have put up the tree and
decorated the center, and we are
waiting for good ol" St. Nick to
arrive.
Tomorrow we will tour the
1000+ Nativity scenes in a
Richardson church. We will stop
lor a treat going or coming. This is
always an exciting treat to see.
Each year is just a little different
and always makes you want to
come back.
Monday is game day. Tuesday
we will motor over to the Super
Target on George Bush Turnpike
and have breakfast with Santa. The
center should open about 10:30
a.m. Tuesday morning.
Wednesday takes us out for
lunch and a movie at Firewheel
Town Center. Thursday we will
celebrate the December birthdays
with lunch and bingo sponsored by
Clark Financial. Friday we will
have chili at Wendy's and then
have a bus tour of our area's deco-
rated homes. The lights are always
so pretty, and it gives us a night
out.
Make your plans now to join us
on our many journeys and feel the
Christmas spirit. We have so much
to be thankful for at this time of
year, but it should last all year
long. Until next week. I'll keep the
door open.
