A Lucky Boy-Tony
It was a lucky day for Tony
Cook, fifth grade student, when he
went to the Tri-State Fair Claude
Day. Why? Well, he registered at
the Compton and Company booth
and won a set of Compton's Pic-
tured Encyclopedias! Mr. Beene pre-
sented these books to Tony at the
October meeting of the Mothers'
Club.
Comp'on's Pictured Encyclopedia
is an excellent set of books for
school children because of the wide
range of subjects covered, the clear-
ness of the material, pictures and
diagrams, and the relatively simple
vocabulary. Mrs. Emma Beaird is
the local representative of Compton
and Company.

THE MUSTANG
by Grace Noll Crowell
A darkened hill, and a crimson
West,
And silhouetted against the light
A black mustang on a tawny crest
Rears aloft in si'dden fright.
Startled perhaps by a coyotes' cry.
Or a scent on the wind; a moment
there
He is a marble chiseled on the sky;
He is motion captured on the air.
Siniued power and strength and
grace,
And wild, wild beauty, and the hill
Is only a canvas on whose face
An upreared muscled form stands
still.
A moment only, and them a hand
Has swept the canvas clean, to
leave
A lovely barren space, a hush—
And something lost for which I
grieve.
