Child Accidentally Strangled
Saturday by Bicycle Inner-Tube
A strange accident that took the'
life of an 11-year-old boy by stran-
f u!at:on Saturday morning, Oct. 3,
1953, struck horror in the hearts
of the parents and of two young
toys who discovered the victim.

Terry, a sixth-grade student at
Avondale school in Amarillo had I
been playing alone outside. Just
how the boy became entangled with
the inner tube is not known.
He was found by two boys, De-
wayne Singletcrry, 14, of 51 la Law-
rence, and Rod Russell. 14, of 31S
Alabama, who were walking on
West 18th Avenue on their way
home from a morning movie.
Terry was hanging in the tube,
which was twisted several times a-
bout his neck and hanging over a
short iron post on the tent-shaped
metal framework, the boys said.

at Washburn Next Farm Bureau M

Washburn Community are inviting
all old timers of that vicinity to

Washburn Community Building

Visiting in Amarillo
A 93-year-old Melissa, Tex., man
visiting in Amarillo Tuesday recal-
led that he conducted the first
sale of a binder in Armstrong
County and shipped the first car-
! load of wheat to Fort Worth.
W. C. Dysart, who is visiting his
j brother, T. S. Dysart, 701 Belleview,
| lived in the section where Conway
' is now located. When he was there
65 years ago, he picked up buffalo
horns from the plains.
Dysart said that although the
country is dry he is glad to see it
so prosperous.
The white-haired, but spry visitor
says he walks three miles a day.
He credits temperance for his age
and good health.

Mrs. Alma Poteet is the happy
grandmother of a name-sake. Vic-
toria Ann. born Thursday. Oct. 1,
1953. in West Palm Beach. Fla. and
weighed 7 pounds. The young ladies
parents are M Sgt. and Mrs. Ogile
B. Poteet of West Palm Beach.
Grandmother Alma says she can't
wait to get acquainted with her new
granddaughter.
Stell Rutherford
Wrings Left Hand
Mrs. Stell Rutherford painfully
injured her left hand last week
when she got it caught in a ringer
at the local la ndr.v. The injury
reqi ired several stitches on one
finger and the hand was bruised.
Fortunately for the Claude News,
it was Stell's left hand. She is the
very able reporter of the Wash-
burn News and the force is quite
happy that she writes with her
right hand.
Murphy-Spicer
Places Ambulance
at Claude
i The Murphy-Spicer Funeral Home
of Clarendon, Texas, has placed
a Chevrolet Ambulance in Claude
for local use in case of sickness or
accident.
Murphy-Spicer will pay. the up-
keep of the ambulance and any
revenue derived from its use by
local people will be contributed to
some local cause. There will be the
usual fees chargcd but such fees
will go to some Claude organization.
The ambulance will take accident
victims and sick people anywhere
they wish to go, day or night. You
are asked to call the local tele-
phone operators should such a need
arise and they will, in-turn, con-
tact a driver.
This service will save consider-
able time in case of accident.
200 ft. 1 in. Pipe
Needed at City Park
Members of the Le Temps Club
are looking for 200 feet of 1 inch
pipe to be used as back-stop poles
for the tennis courts at the Claude
City Park. If there should be any
amount of this size pipe around
and someone wishes to donate it
to the park they are asked to noti-
fy Inez Conrad or Jan Campbell
this week and they will have it
picked up. This will complete the
tennis courts.
