*W. P. Hill was in from Sand
Creek Monday trading.
Born—To Mr. and Mrs. M. E.
Hill, Saturday, June 30. A boy.
Bert Wright and family were
in from west of town last Satur-
day trading.
"Bob" McDonald came in from
Hfggins this morning where he
had been over the Fourth.
Mr. % and Mrs. J. B. Turner
were in from northwest of town
"Saturday a few hou.*s shop-
ping."
, * Henry Stephens, jr., arrived
home from Alva., Okla., where he
has been for a few days working
in the harvest field.
- Perhaps many a man who
boasts of his / honesty would go
lame if an opportunity worth
while was to knock at his door.

Miss Gladys Olivei arrived
Saturday evening from Okla-
homa and will visit a few weeks
h^re with relatives and other
friends.
A woman's persistency is pro-
verbial. She made a wrong start
in the Garden of Eden, but she
has been trying to get her rights
ever since.
T. O. Payne, one of the wide
awake ranchers of the upper
Sand Creek counrty was in Sat-
urday shaking hands with the
people of the town.
W. R. Hill and John Paine, of
4 northwest of town, passed
through here today on their way
to Glazier to attend to a little
business,Irsturning in the evening.
The farmers are taking advan-
tage, of the last rain and are
now putting in their time plow-
ing and doing other work that is
rushing them along at this time.
J. Howlett, of Barney, N. M.,
is here this week for a few day's
visit with Mr. and Mrs. Tobe
"Wheat and other friends and re-
latives [in this section of the
country..
Several of the young people of
this place attended the Grand
' Ball at Higgins last Thursday
evening given for the benefit of
the Red Cross and Navy League.
A good time was reported by all.
The Grand Ball given at the
Bussard Hall on the evening of
July 4th was enjoyed by a larger
crowd than usual although a great
many of the young people were
gone. The F. L. Pa 'ks orches-
tra furnished the music.
. .
And it now so happens that
flour on the local market is com-
ing down somewhat. The price,
now ranging between $3.30 and
3:40. That helps some although
the Igood people could stand
more shaving than that.
L. B. and A. M. Harrison and
brother from the northwestern
part of the county were in last
Friday morning for a short time
on business and while in • the
buig called on the Lime Light
force. *
John Edgar put up a four leg-
ged wind mill toWer for W. L.
Owen living in the west part of
town today and from now on out
we anticipate there will be plenty
of water running loose in that
end of town.
Several of the people of this
man's town grabbed the opport-
unity by the hair on the Fourth
wenfe up the creek where the
finny tribe do ramble. Some
caught fish and others were not
so lucky but had a good time.
Among the pleasant features in
our old town on the Fourth was
the ice cream indulged in at tl^e
. home of Mr. and Mrs. Jess
Bussard. The little fellows had
a swell time and there was quite
a number of them too, from the
neighbors in the vicinity that en-
joyed this much craved dish.
Our esteemed friend, D. L.
Burch, living about nineteen
miles north west of he/e is at this
time doing some breaking stunt
on his ranch with a new tractor
and the way things are rambling
along up there isn't a bit slow.
The plows, harrows and clod
roller are all working at the same
time. "Something doing" and
then some.
• Our ilfustratrious Harry Cess-
na, who works' in the capacity of
Ford nurse at the City Garage,
left Saturday evening for Canyon,
without doubt to take a higher
.course in how to handle one of

we're feeling just as good over
your good fortune as though we
had it ourselves. It's mighty
fine for Shattuck has needed a
new one for years. Here's hop-
ing she is "there and over."

Shattuck is going to feel mighty
proud of the new depot the Santa
Fe is preparing to build for the
town. All Ipreparation isN being
made to begin work. Mayor
Oliver signed up all necessary pa-
pers this week, and everything is
now in readiness to begin. The
new depot will bea modern struct-
ure 40x210 feet and a most hand-
some design of architecture—
something that the people as
well as\ the railroad company will
feel proud of, and we are inform-
ed too that this is not all the
Santa Fe people expect to do for
Shattuck. It; is fortunate that
Shattuck is so well located—just
right.—Shattuck (Okla.) Monitor
