Church Xmaa day were very good
After Sunday school several Xmas
numbers were rendered by the
smaller children. The Xmas pro-
gram under the direction of Mrs.
Odessa Holland wss very good. Mr,

a few friends with a 4:00 o'clock
breakfast Mr. and Mrs. Chas. J.
Scrutchin spent Xmas in Lockhart.
They reported an enjoyable time.

widows and orphans of deceased

Stewards Court of Calanthe.
Miss Fernandra Ramsey has re-
turned home after spending several
months in San Antonio. Mr. and

ried Wednesday night, Dec. 27th
at the home of the bride, Rev. N.
Henderson officiated. After the
wedding, the bride and groom left
for Goliad.
Sunday was regular pastoral day
at Mt. Zion. S. S. at usual hour,
with Prof. Wimbish acting Supt.
The session was reviewed by the
pastor.
At 3 o'clock pastor Henderson
preached a soul-stirring sermon,
subject "That Celestial City."
The out of town guests were Mr.
and Mrs. Maple Bowls of El Paso
and Mr. Willie Smith from Arizona.
Mr. and Mrs. Isaac Thompson of
San Antonio spent the week with
Mrs. Thompson's mother Mrs.
Mary Edwards.
Miss D. M. Hunt is visiting with
Lockhart News
M. P. S. S. was opened with sup-
erintendent and teachers at their
posts. Pastor Cyphers preached
two soul-stirring sermons Sunday
morning and night to an apprecia-
tive audience. C. E. Society held
its regular meeting with Miss A.
M. Brooks presiding.
The "Heaven Bound" pageant at
St. James A. M. E. Church was
well attended. It will be repeated
on January 14th Saturday night
at the M. P. Church.
At 9:46 S. S. at First Baptist
Supt and her corps of workers at
their posts of duty.
Mr. and Mrs. M. E. Wilson and
daughter Marene Bell of San An-
tonio and Mr. Ford of Houston
were in our little town this week.
While here they visited Mr. and
Mrs. K. P. Sayles. B. M. Maynard,
Mrs. Ida North and others were
very glad to have them call.
Mrs. Vinia McCIain died Dec.
27th and she was usrvived by 12
children—7 boys and 6 gills. Her
sons were her pall bearers. Funeral
services were conducted by Rev.
C. C. Cyphers at the H. P. church.
Mrs. McCIain was the mother of
the church. She was loved by all.
She was our loss, but hesven's
gain.
Mrs. Willie Walker returned to
Gomales Sunday after spending
Xmas holidays in the home of Rev.
and Mrs. Cyphers.
Mr. EMgar Harbert was seriously
hurt at the Lockhart compress. His
foot was amputated.
Mrs. Pearl Simmon, San Anto-
nio, motored over Monday and
spent the holidays with friends and
relatives.
Mr. and Mrs. Curtis O. John-
son of San Antonio spent Sunday
with his mother, Mrs. Minnie John-
son.

Mosely departed this life Dec. 31,
at 11 p. m. in the home of her
daughter, Mrs. S. Bingley. Mrs.
Mosely is survived by one daugh-
ter, Mrs. Sallie Bingley of Fla-
tonio. many grand children and

Josephine Hayes, Melvina Doug-
Mrs. H. Moore Hilliard and son
little Robert L. Moore Hilliard of
San Antonio spent the holidays
with their sister and aunt, Mias

On Mondsy evening, Jan. 2, Mr.
Oscar Carson presented Mies Flor-
ence Brooks and her Rhythm Kings
orchestra at the Pilgrim Hall. The
dance went over in a big way.
After the dance on Monday eve-
ning the "gang'' went to the home
of Mist Brook's at 923 Sam Ran-
kin street and enjoyed themselves
in real holiday spirit until the wee
sma' hours.
