Period of High Wages Will Have a
Reaction, Says Priest
"In the Old Testament you
read of the advice Riven to the
king of Egypt by Joseph when
the latter learned through a
dream that there would be a
season of famine following the
seven years of plenty. It was
that the king should store away
as much grain as possible dur-
ing the years of the bountiful
crop. He did, and as a result
thousands of the children of the
Nile were saved from starvation.
"Now, just as sure as history
repeats itself, so sure will the
present period of high wages
and its Hood of money be follow-
ed by one of stringency. Wheth-
er you attribute it to the law of
compensation or not,anyone who
roads closely the story of the
world, or even this country, will
know that our needs not the
gift ot | rophic> to predict tins.
"In order to moot the incon-
veniences, and n ay be even more
serious consequences, ot trie
yeais of s'.i ii.geiicy, therefore,
there is only one ..viulabie meth-
od, and that is to toilow the ex-
ample of the king of Egypt.
Save! Follow the habit of thrift!
I'ractice the virtue of economy!
The dollar that you so lavishly
spend now for luxuries or un-
necessary comforts will be in-
comparably more precious then,
even if you do get it back again.
"Many of you are no greater,
wiser or better than your ances-
tors. Consider how well yet
how simply they lived, when
meat once a week was esteemed
as a luxury, when they prided
themselves on having a suit of
clothes for two years or more,
even though invisible patchesj
prolonged Us life; when the par-;
tides ot' food that are now often
consigned to the garbage can
furnished some dainty dishes'
for the following meal.
