To the many friends <■' the
charming girl who, um.er such
joyful circumstances departs
from their midst, any attempt to
express in words her merit seems
idle. The daughter of Mr. L H,
Hill of the old and well known
firm of Webb vV Hill, she is iden-
tified with jwople who have done
much toward the devlopment and
progress of the country. On her
own account, we rna> add. she
is a young lady of excellent ac-
complishment. and her gracious-
ne>s and charm win for her the
love and esteem of all with whom
she meets.
Mr McMurtry, the young man
who has succeeded in winning
the heart and hand of so fair a
bride, is a native of Canada and
comes from a house that l>ears
an old and favored name Kflr
a number of years he has been a
resident of the great West,
where, as a mining engineer, he
has met with success and made
gitod.

LEGISLATIVE HEWS LEnER
Austin, Texas, Sept. 5. Our
solons have paid their vows and
their bills and are hurrying from
Austin like men running from
their sins.
The work of the Session shows
that our Legislators stumbled
towards progress a few times,
but the Pro and Anti elements
clenched and fell before they
reached it. It would be a great
thing for Texas if some of our
l>oiiticians could go to Heaven in
a whirlwind, but of course we
wouldn't want them to !eav" un-
less they could better themselves.
The Legislature has had, all
j told, over 30 subjects submitted
| for Legislation but less than ten
laws were passed and none af-
i fecting the industrial interests of
I the State. The surest plan for a
I Legislature to avoid mistakes is
! to do nothing.
The Appropriation Bill, amount-
ing to $10,208.71!i. 85 reached the
Chief Executive, but the Gover-
nor reduced it $010,000, taking
$4l,iY70 off the appropriation of
the Attorney General's Depart-
ment, and the remainder of the
reduction was made on the edu-
cational institutions.
The State Senatorial He-Dis-
tricting Bill has been vetoed by
the Governor and other bills may
! find the veto ax.
I
In order to avoid passing the
'Congressional Re-Districting Bill
' eight Prohibition Senators ab-
sented themselves from the Sen-
ate Chamber and succeeded in
killing the bill, as well as many
other useful measures. This
action will result in the election
of two Congressmen at large.
The closing Session was one of
strife and turmoil. The mem-
bers of the House were refused
admission to the Senate and re-
taliated by refusing to receive
any messages from the Senate.
MMU6HT SUPPER
A number of the young people
took advantage of the moonlight
and went out Saturday evening
to the favorite picnicing ground
on the McLemore ranch, where
they enjoyed a delightful supper
on the rocks. Among the party
were Misses Katherine Morrow,
Jonnie LeMond, Lorena Deats,
Minnie Bealle Webb, Camille
Webb, Gussie Newcomb, Daisy
! Powell. Anabel Nelson, Josephine
Ewing, Louise Ewing, Sammie
Coffee;Messrs. Louia Hill, Dewitt
Reynolds, Bob Deats,Clifton Dod-
son, Brooksey King. Alex Nelson,
Lonnie Mires, P. K. Deats, Jack
Robert; Mr. and Mrs. G.C. King,
Mr. and Mrs. F. W. Nelson.
Dinner Party.
On the eve of the wedding day
| of Miss Ethel Crigler and Mr.
McMurtry, Mr. and Mrs. L. H.
; Hill entertained the wedding
party with a dinner at their beau-
tiful home on South Main Street.
I Plates were laid for the follow-
ing: Mr. and Mrs. Howard
Burns. Mr, and Mrs. J. Carter
1 King, Dr. and Mrs. H. L. Wilder,
Mr. and Mrs. Rose. Mrs. Ewing,
Misses liouise and Josephine

j Fall Announcement LU-L'igi
Our buyers, J. T. Lowery and Miss Ora Leech, have returned from the eastern markets, where
they spent considerable time in looking after bargains and hunting for things to please the peo-
ple of Albain and surrounding country, and we take pride in announcing to the trader that their
efforts were successful; for never before have we been able to show such a variety of styles and
quality at such enormously low prices.
