^ The Leap Year Ball*
The young folks have been
on the que new ever since the
Leap Year Ball was mentioned
last week and on Tuesday cul
miuated one of the most enjoy-
able and successful affairs that
everjtoote place in Albany. The
ladies who Rteered it to so suc-
cessful an end have reason to
(Congratulate , themselves, for
was anything ouuutged
ore nicely. In the eternal fit-
iess of things It is ordered that
man shall play the part of es-
cort to the ladies, wait on them
pud so on, but Tuesday nigfit
the order of things wap reversed
and the ladies were'the escorts,
or, in a^BJi^ords, the ladies
were the gentlemen aud the
gentlemen were the and
it was iufiiiitely amusing to
a lady and gentleman come
aud the seutlemau march on in-
to the hall and the lady* stop
and settle with the door keeper,
and then procure the gentle-
man a seat, take his hat, coat,
and wraps and carefully depos-(
it them in a waitiug room, only
to be brought out again wheu
the gentleman, hi his softest ac
cents, whispered that he was
"tired, aud wanted to go home
or, after t. e quadrille was oyer
lead the geutleiuau to a seat,
and if none could be found ask
a lady to get. Wejio not pro-
pose to dlsqusR the wotueu'a
rights qtiestiou at this time, but
the gallantry aud uus^lflohness
with which the ladies treated
the gentlemen on this occasion
entitles them to great credit and
moves the Echo to express the
wish that they may allug in u
few more of the same sort for
good measure. This affair will
long Us remembered iu Albany.
The prouraiume was a good
one, intermissions ei^oyably
long.; lunch—-which by the way
was very nice and well served*—
Iu good time aui taste, music
lair aud every one left*the hall
feeling Uiat it was good to have
beru there.
