The ease of 0. G. Burnett and wife
vs. The Texas Central Railway Co.
will probably be tried next woek
in our District Court. This is by
far the most important oase ever
oommenoed or tried in this oounty.
The action is for $20,000 damages,
for personal injuries to Mrs. Burnett
i a paaaenger on defendant's
milroad, at Oiaco, in July 1882, when
there was a collision between two of
dafandants trains. Mrs. Burnett
waa bodily injured, being thrown
•cross the ear; producing concussion
of the tpine, which now threatens to
result in paralysis. It seems that iu
this state the oivil responsibility of
Railroad Compaies to their passen-
engers for injuries oatued - by negli-
gence of employees is the only safe
guard the citiaen has. The criminal
law in sucb oases being vague, lax
