the Val Verde County Herald.
And was written by Austin Callau,
the editor. jOsllan says he wrote it
by request of «i friend. We pre-
sume said friend a priest,
This town is situated near the
Line of Texas and Mexico and is
largely Catholic. ■
This man, Callau writes for the
price. Consequently always
the masses of the people and for
the powers that be. Those that can
pay the biggest price, not so much
in money, as influence and politi-
cal power. Protestants here are
very subservient, indifferent and
ignorant of the political, advances
of Catholicism, and very little
. fight among them.
The only fighters here are the
Socialists. The Menace would not
have a subscriber here but for
the Socialists. The first copies of
the Menace that oame to thia town
was directed to the secretary of
the Socialist club here, and a So-
cialist who is not a member of any
church bought and distributed
100 copies of Menaee. So, the
Menace is indebted to the Socialist
hare for whatever subscribers you
have at this place.
Taking all the above facts into
consideration we feel sore at the
Menace for its position politically.
The Menase opposed Taft and also
Wilpon before he received the
nomination for president while
