doesn't get the grant . He said if the
grant is secured any money
.received over the $132,000 will be
used to upgrade the sewer system
on the south side of town.
Richards said a demolition
project on the south side of the city
will be completed in 1989. He said
the city still has about $40,000 in
grant money set aside for
demolishing structures and clean-
ing up lots.
The mayor said a beautification
effort launched this year by the city
and community groups will also
continue into 1989.
He said the effort includes plans
to "dress up Main Street," possi-
bly by planting trees or shrubs and
the long-range plan includes a rail-
road museum at the end of Main
Street housed in an old MKT
the city caboose.
Richards said in 1989 the city
will apply for approximately a
$250,000 grant for improvements
at Keilberg Park. He said if
received, the money could be used
for building pavilions, installing
picnic tables and barbecue pits and
for carrying out other improve-
ments set forth in a master plan for
the park recently completed by the
Texas Parks and Wildlife
Department. 1
Richards said even with a "very
tight" 1989 budget he is locking
forward to a good year.
"The budget is tight but if we
manage the money properly and
utilize the people we. have on our
force we can do a lot of extra
things," said Richards. "That's
what we did in 1988," he said.
