Summer Michelle Hargett,

Mike Hargett, was baptised
Sunday, June 12th, at the
Assembly of God Church in
Leander. Her sponsors are
her grandparents, Mr. and
Mrs. T. M. Pearson of
Leander. Those attending
the ceremony were her
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Mike
Hargett and Misty and Mr.
and Mrs. Ralph Jaekman.
Worth repeating: "The
human race is divided into
two groups. Those who go
ahead and do something, and
those who sit and inquire
why it wasn't done the other
way."
Teresa Ann Tomerlin,
1977 graduate of Bastrop
High School, has been
awarded an $800 John
Porter King, Jr. Memorial

scholastic League Founda-
tion.

The old saying that
"Daisies Never Tell" - but
the beautiful daisies at the
Sam Lester residence are
telling everyone just how
beautiful they really are.
Mary and Sam do have the
loveliest flowers in the
early spring it was the roses
of many colors and so
beautiful to behold. Every
season there is some
beautiful flower blooming in
their yard....probably to
welcome visitors to Bastrop
and for the enjoyment of the
locals. Drive by and see their
daisies because they will
soon be gone.
To see the number of
campers arriving at Bastrop
State Park and at Lake
Bastrop Parks is almost
unbelievable. They are com-
ing from everywhere to
enjoy the serenity of the
stately pines and the soft
breezes blowing from across
the lake. It is my under-
standing that the pool at the
park will soon open to bring
enjoyment to the young-
sters. Water skiiing is the
great pastime for the
younger set, and many are
trying their skills on the
lake. Some ski the length of
the lake many times while
others seem to always be
trying to get up on the skis.
It is tryly a test of balance.
This is one of the great
sports which will be with us

There is much entertain-
ment in Central Texas from
Memorial weekend through
Labor Day. Anything that
suits the taste may be found
in the area. Anything from
Rock Festivals to Ballet.
There will be many rodeos
and beauty pageants scat-
tered around for anyone to
see. Get on your traveling
duds and see what Texas has
to offer.
The Chamber members
and friends of Mattie Denson
('Aunt Matt) were sorry to
learn of the accident she had
with the pressure cooker.
Being burned is no small
thing, and at the best it is
very painful, but we are
grateful that it was no worse
than it was. We want Matt to
know that we are thinking of
her and miss her on Main
Street. I am just about the
world worst to visit patients
in the hospital, but I do ask
everyday and hope that she
is doing better each day. We
are all looking forward to

lineup. We hope to enter the
float in as many parades as
possible in order to have
these towns represented in
our Homecoming Parade. If
we don't go, they won't
come...it's as simple as that.
Seems that it always falls on
the same few to see that the
float gets to its destination.
We do need some help and
you are qualified. Won't you
volunteer your services.

Saw lone Hoffman Lock-
wood in town over the
weekend when she came
home to visit relatives. She
is still working in the bank in
Houston and doing a lot of
painting in oil If you haven't
seen any of her work, you
have missed a treat. She is
truly professional and her
work is beautiful to behold.
She has had some of her
paintings on display at First
National Bank so if you
happen in take a took at her
work. Bastrop is indeed
fortuante to have so many
talented artists.
So many are asking about
swimming lessons and at the
present time, if the pool is
open, we will have them the
second and third weeks of
July. Classes will be limited.

Guess you have heard that
they are no longer bottling
Coca Cola in Bastrop. This is
another industry that we
will miss. Henry Schuyler
and wife, Thelma Lee, will
be retiring and are planning
on doing some traveling. I
don't think that they have
decided just where they are
going, but plan to see some
of the country. We wish
them well, but not for a
moment do we believe that
Henry will sit down and hold
his hands. He has always
been too involved in making
Bastrop a better place to live
and make a living, and I
don't believe that he will
ever quit doing that. At least
we hope not....Henry does
deserve a long vacation and
we all wish him well....Lock's
Drug Store couldn't run
without Henry's coffee
business.
Lowdens to

They now reside in Silent
Valley with their four

dinner party at their home is
planned for Thursday, and
then Mr. and Mrs. Lowden
hope to make a short trip to
the coast this weekend.
