ABC-13's EARTH DAY HOUSTON
- Friday April 18, 2008
Recycle old electronics at the ABC-13 Studios,
3310 Bissonnet, from 6:00 am - 2:00pm
ABC-13's 2nd annual Earth Day
Houston drive will be held on April
18, 2008 from 6:00 am to 2:00pm.
The concept grew from synergy with
its parent company, the Walt Disney
Company. Getting direction from
Disney's successful Burbank
employee drive, ABC-13 [KTRK-TV]
(an ABC Owned and Operated
Station) will combine efforts with the
City of Houston and corporate
sponsors Halliburton, the Port of
Houston, Toyota, the Houston Zoo,
Shell Oil, and Green Bank. The Earth
Day Houston Drive will educate and
encourage the community on the
importance of recycling.
In addition, the station will air an
hour long special from 9am to 10am
to inform viewers on topics ranging
from the basics of recycling to the
environmental hazards of paints and
batteries.
Scheduled to correspond with World
Earth Day, ABC-13's Earth Day
Houston Drive will adhere to parent
company Disney's Environmentality,
which asserts a commitment to
environmental stewardship through
conservation, education and action.
The drive will represent pro-active
support of the corporation's official
conscience that individual action is
the key to success in protecting the
environment. In synergy with
Disney's Environmentality, ABC-13's
Earth Day Houston Drive will call on
everyone to help "make a difference"
by minimizing waste. The campaign
will encourage residents to recycle
old electronics, find alternative uses
for products at their end of life and
call recycling centers or a recycling
business to find out if and how
materials can be recycled. ABC-13's
Earth Day Houston Drive will
promote waste minimization not just
on World Earth Day but year-round.
Last year's response from the public
was astounding, and sent a clear
message that, with guidance,
Houstonians are ready and anxious to
do their part in balancing the
environment in which they live.
Volunteers collected over 20 tons of
E-Cycling material from over 700
donors who drove through the
station's parking lot to deposit their
recyclable electronic items. About
200 cell phones were also collected
and donated to the Houston Area
Women's Center as a part of their
Verizon Wireless "HopeLine"
program.
Below is a list of sponsors,
organizations, and groups that will
participate in ABC-13's Earth Day
Houston 2008 Drive.
