SOLOMON HAYDEN, Dunbar junior school stalwart, was the
choice of all coaches for a guard post on the all-league team
of the YMC A junior league. Each of the other four men select-
ed received five votes. Six boys named to the second all-league
team each polled four votes.
Forwards: Porter Mathis and Doug Dilworth beat crtit Rich-
ardson and Vernon White by one vote each. Of the four, Mathis
was the most dangerous clutch man,
spearheading a fine ail-around E E-
S H nttack. Dilworth was the most
consistent. Richardson the most
deadly from the foul line and Ver-
non White the most versatile.
Centers: Jim Owens won over
"Hooks" Miller with his stirring
defensive play and point getting.
In fairness to Miller, though, it
might be pointed out that Wiley
Walker had such a well-balanced
attack he could substitute without
any noticeable weakness so Hooks
played only a short time in some of
the not-so-rough encounters.
Guards: No finer pair of guards
could have been selected. There were
five, which shows that all of the
selectors thought these boys were
tops. The first pair, Stallion of
EE8H and Hayden of Dunbar, were
truly outstanding. Stallion was a

backboard hawk. He did not care
much about point getting, but was
possibly the most dangerous man in
the league when the chips were
down; a real'money player. Holoinon
Hayden was the backbone of a rug-
1 ged Dunbar defense as well as a
handy offensive threat. He and
Francis and James Hradley prac-
tically carried the Dunbnr offense;
it was impossible to stop all three
at the same time and It was a
miracle to find a player who could
out jump the canny Hayden under
the hoops.
Goins, Eason. and Swain were
shining lights in their teams' nt-
tack. Eason and Swain directed
their teams—Eason, Hoys club,
Swain, EESH. The whole attack
was built around these two and
each was a good boy. Coins and
Owens furnished the HC height and
Goins could also i>oint in a pinch.
Others who drew praises for their
play were Washington and Jack
Jackson of Wheatley courts, Jim
Bradley and Lawrence Francis that
troublesome duo of Dunbar's; Den-
nis Wayne, Curtis Lampkiu, and
William Mooney of Douglas.
The eleven players named on the
first two teams will receive gold
basketballs, the other seven will
receive silver balls.
