"Fiesta Memories"
A Night To Be
Long Remembered
Banded together in early 1974 for the ex-
pressed purpose of adding still another fa-
cet to San Antonio s already glittering spec- ,
tacular Fiesta de San Jacinto celebration,
Le Cercle d'Amies celebrated its fourth
birthday with the event of Fiesta *78, and to
mark the memorable occasion the club invited
more than 200 friends to join
them on s sentimental journey
down Memory Laneattheclub's
brilliant Fourth Anniversary
Ball. ' Fiesta Memories.'
The ornately beautiful and
elaborately festive affair was
held In the ball room at Turtle
Creek Country club, where, for
four delightfully spent hours,
the guests had an opportunity to
re-llve with their charming
hostesses, many of the glowing
memories thst had enhanced
tbelr four years of together-
ness snd during which they had
made such magnificent contri-
butions to social festivities en-
Joyed by local and visiting
socialites during past Fiesta
sessoos
Their efforts can only be
likened to the mystique of Mardl

grandeur at Kentucky during the

Guests were received
In the beautifully decorated
foyer by the hostesses and an-

Miss Katharine Beverly and
then escorted to their assigned
table by husbands and escort

of multi-colored balloons with
happy faces adorned the bran-
ches at trees placed at vant-
age points in the ballroom,
foyer and sun room, and clusters
of the colorful baubles, much
like those carried by Fiesta
vendors, hung high over the
room, creating the Illusion at
motion.

outlined the yard and yard walk-

with more of the bigger than

Mrs. Hubert (Delores) Kelley, Mrs. S.L. (Doris) Deckard Sr., Mrs.

corations, and other memor-
abilia from those events.
Big, over-sized posters were
mounted with hundred of pho-
tographs, mad*- of members and
guests during past Fiesta ac-
tivities, and throughout the
evening, guests enjoyed stroll-
ing about viewing the artful dis-
plays, more than a few exper-
iencing a nostalgic moment or
two of their own as they found
themselves In the colorful
' lineup'
All of the beautiful decora-
tions and flowers had been
fashioned by members of the
hostess club.
Guests danced to the big band

Promptly at 10:10, Miss Bev-

members of the entertaining
club, as the orchestra softly
played ' Memories' (The Way
We Were). As the couples
formed their traditional cir-

were ' gifted' with a very spe-
cial gift by their spouses. Wil-
liam Nelson, son of member
Edna Christopher, served as
her escort for the evening.
In 1976 each members hus-
band surprised her with a solid
gold "nothing" chain on which
suspended a gold circle pen-
dant, Inscribed with her own
name, the name of the club and
the year it was organized. Last
year, though no bal> was held,
at a festive family luncheon,
during the club's Fiesta week of
fun things todolnstead of the us-
ual place cards, the members
found their place settings
marked by their pendants which
had been embelllsHed with a
sparkling diamond
Friday night, two diamonds
gleamed In their treasured
keepsakes vhere only one ha.i
previously bam.
New offi rs were then In-
stalled by Miss Beverly, after
which the outgoing president,
Gloria (Mrs. C. Roy) McGowan,
In a beautiful gesture of friend-
ship, planted a kiss on the cheek
Of her successor, Josephine
(Mrs. Valmo C.) Bellinger, and
passed to her the gave! of her
jfflcer. She then, in brief, but
eloquent remarks, thanked the
con.mentator husbands and
guests, and, as bar final act of
officer, presented Miss Beverly
with a lovely gift from her fel-
low club members for the part
she bad played In their treasure
chest of memories.
The brief ceremony over the
ladles rejoined the spouses for
the club danc<, "I Can't Stop
Loving You," adopted at their
very first dance as "their"
song. Dane guests were Invited
to join them on the dance floor
as the band drifted to the strains
of * Thanks For The
Memories."
The members wore Indi-

fashioned of whisper-soft chif-

from pale bleached celery to
ripe watermelon red, and each

off the ballroom. In addition to
eggs, bacon, hash browns, hot
rolls snd jellies, assorted hot
Danish psstrles, a luscious va-

from a sailboat, cleverly
fashioned from a huge melon.
Sparkling champagne was
poured from a bar at one end
of the room, and the fragrant,
delicious aroma of hot coffee
beckoned guests from the op-

the ballroom, guests dined
leisurely by flickering candle-
