Sa That They Will Know
THIS week, in Detroit, the sixty-first convention of
1 '• the Veterans of Foreign Wars urged that Ameri-
can young people learn more about communism—for
America's protection, and so that they, youth, will
not he duped, inveigled, misled, and victimized.
VFW wants high schools and colleges to have
classes in eommunism, to teach its history, to com-
pare and contrast it with the democratic ideology,
and to examine the lives of its leaders to the end that
"every insidious attempt by Communists to influence
or misguide America's youth will be recognized."
More than a few adult Americans also need infor-
mation and education on communism.
The convention, after hearing Cuban and Chi-
nese refugees from communism, passed, unanimously,
a resolution advocating the study of communism and
that, in part, said:
'To effectively combat an enemy you must not
only kaow your opponent, but also everything
about him, bring fully aware of the consequences
in the cveat of victory by communism . .
The VFW proposal not only has merit, but, we
think, is worthy of vigorous support and implementa-
tion, now.
