Negro hi Kb school students atteuding
the Warr<*n county high school here
are in the center of one of the great-
est struggles in the South t«*la> for
democracy*'in public education. The
youngsters have received some vicions
aud iusujlinje letters.
These youngsters are playing a sig-
nificant role in the current struggle
to make democracy real in Virginia
and other parts of the South. Their
names, observers say. should be widely
publicized, ami they should get letters
and gifts indicating that the people
who believe in democracy and social
just ce are backing them.
Anne Uraden. who has made an in-
vestigation of conditions at Front
Royal, says in her rejxrrt: . No
children anywhere in the South have
a more just case than thexe young*
sters. There is no high school f«>r Ne-

cltides Front Boyal. Some of these chil-

miles away.
"Those attending Manassas boarded
all week and came home only on week
ends. These nt Berryville went bv bus
each day, often returning after dark,
especially when the bus broke down,
which was often."

couraging pe« pie and organizations lo
write to these students and express
their views on' the sacrifices they are
making in the interest of democrotie
