Hicks drove to Corpus Christi
Saturday wheretheyjoined Mrs.
Lucille Randle, Miss Carol
Spencer, L.S Spencer Jr. and
Mark Brothers, all of San An-
tonio, and Richard Speed of San
Marcos to attend the Buccaneer
parade that evening. The next
afternoon they had approximate
ly 60 other relatives and friends
enjoyed a delicious barbecue
dinner in the home of Mr. and
Mrs. Oscar Carnell.
Lulingites attended the fu-
neral of Earl "Bee" Campbell
April 28 at Trinity Baptist
church in San Antonio. Camp-
bell was a former Lullng res-
ident. Survivors include two
sisters, Mmes. Maggie McNeal
and Cleo Wright; brother, John
Campbell; nieces, nephews and
other relatives.
Juanita Dukes re-entered
Austin's Brackenrldge hospital
April 27 and underwent surgery
on the 28th. At the time of this
report she was reported "much
improved."
Mrs. Leona Stewart Is ill at
the Houston home of her niece,
Mrs. Willie Mae Hester.
Community Baptist church
saw four visitors worship In
its Sunday morning service.
They were Rev. and Mrs. J.
Walker and Mmes. Minnie D.
Wilson and Cora Reed. The
pastor, Rev. W. Harris, offi-
ciated. In the afternoon Rev.
Harris, his choir and congre-
gation worshipped at Dale's
zlon Union Baptist church.
Rev. Harris was the guest
speaker,

with Rev. E. Gilibs of Houston
as guest speaker. Rev. I.T.
Hewitt was host.
The Mt. Arie Usher board
sponsored a talent show Sunday
afternoon. Mrs. Allie Smith
presided.
Rev. M.I.. Lewis was at his
post of duty Sunday mornint
after spending the past week
with Mrs. M.L. Lewis who is
convalescing in her Corpus
Christi home. The pastor ad-
ministered Holy Communion.
Rev. M.L. Williams of Great-
er Macedonia Baptist officiat-
ed at his church.
Relatlves'and friends attend-
ed James Clinton Murphy's fu-
neral April 27 at St. James Bap-
tist church inSchulenburg. Rev.
W.L. Greene officiated. Sur-
vivors include his parents,
grandmothers, one brother, one
sister, five children and other
relatives. Ben Davis Funeral
home arranged the service. In-
terment was in Schulenburg
cemetery.
Relatives and friends attend-
ed Reubin Monroe's funeral
April 28 at St. Mark Missionary
Baptist in Houston. Rev. W.R.
Lott officiated. Monroe was
the son of the late Mr. and Mrs.
Ernest Monroe and was a Wei-
mar native who had lived in
Houston for a number of years.
His survivors include his wi-
dow, one son, sisters, broth-
ers and other relatives.
Mrs. Ponetta White and Mrs.
Lacy Henry, great aunts of Mon-
roe, Rev. O. Henry and Henry
Wicks Jr. attended the funeral.
Interment was in Houston Na-
tional cemetery.
Mr. and Mrs. Major Car-
mickle attended the funeral of
Mrs. Francis Caruthers Thom-
as 1 n Aransas Pass. Mrs.
Thomas was a Weimar native
and the sister of Mrs. Car-
mlckle.
Mrs. Lillie Jackson and
Dwight Caruthers are patients
in Youens Memorial hospital.
Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Houston
visited his brother in Houston.

the Charity Club meeting in her
home.

day on Sunday. Mrs. Milton
Walker was the keynote speak-
er.

chairman of a fashion show held
in Juarez for the benefit of a
new Rotary school for mentally
n-tarded children,
Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Wash-
ington entertained 75 friends In
their home Saturday with a sou)
food dinner.
Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Allen
are vacationing in Europe.
A committee meeting was
held at the central office of
Yselta School district for vol-
unteer service in public
schools. Kathy Paxon was chair
person.
Mr. and Mrs. Charles Sarpy
held a feast of soul food and
goodies in their home for their
son Sonny Sarpy, and his family.
Rev. James Brocktngton has
returned from Dallas, where he
attended a three-day seminar al
Bishop college.
St. Paul Baptist church and
its cafeteria suffered extensive
damages from the recent flood-
ing. The cafeteria was knocked
off Its foundation.
Augus G. "Red" Townsend's
funeral was held April 25 at St.
Mathew AME church. Rev.E.
Paige gave the eulogy. Sur-
vivors include his widow, chil-
dren, two sisters and two broth-
ers. Kelly Funeral home ar-
ranged the service. Interment
was in the city cemetery.
Mrs. Mack Wilson has en-
tered a Houston hospital
Mrs. Mattie Gentry and son
visited her sister, Mrs. Artie
M. Jones.
Mr. and Mrs. Cornell Allen
of San Antonio visited Mr. and
Mrs. Claude Brewer.
Mr. and Mrs. Mannln Buck-
man, Mrs. Velrna Mathls and
Claude Brewer went to Austin
on business. They also visited
the Harris and Brooks families.
Mrs. Georglne Barnes Is in
Houston visiting her brother,
E.J. Henry, who is 111.
Rev. Charles Tatum was at
his post in St. Matthew AME
church. Pfc. and Mrs. Willie
Mitchell of San Antonio wor-
shipped at the church.
Petersburg Baptist held reg-
ular services. Rev. E. Barnes
Is pastor.

ed Mrs. Beatrice Kindred.
Mr. and Mrs. Edward Eaton,
Carl West and Johnnie Williams
of Austin visited their grand-
mother, Mrs. Beatrice Garrett.

Obsequies were held April
25 for Willie Roy Hunt Sr. at
Monthalla Church of God in
Christ. Elder S.T. Napier of-
ficiated. Interment was in Mon-
thalla cemetery.
Hunt's survivors Include his
widow, Mrs. Lillie Hunt; two
sons, one step-daughter, six
brothers, three sisters, three
grandchildren, six greatgrand-
children, his motherfMrs. Har-
riett Hunt) and other relatives.
Mrs. Mattie Clark visited her
son, Preston Clark, who is
presently recuperating In Aus-
tin's Brackenrldge hospital.
Her other son, L.V. Clark, has
received his teacher's certif-
icate from Southwest Texas
State university.
