It is only a few days now until you will have to
arrango to take care of that grain crop, so the best way
to do that is to get you a FORDSON TRACTOR and let
the mules plow the cotton and com. The FORDSON is
at home when you put it to a binder.
Let us have your order now and you will have it on
the ground when you need it. It don't eat while wait-

The Mesquiter has just com-
pleted the printing of the min-
utes of the South Texas Baptist
Missionary Association, in pam-
plet form.
The fact that we got this job
is due to the kindness of Rev. L.
S. Darling, formerly of Mesquite
and now pastor of the First Bap-
tist church of Rockport, who is
moderator of the Association,
who, besides being our friend,
knows that the Mesquiter shop
turns out good work at reason-
able prices.

More Concrete Walks
Being Built Here
Another start is being made
in the building of concrete side-
walks in the residence part of
town, one being under way now
on North Allen street, the cos;
of which is being defrayed by
the property owners on that
street, namely John S. Law-
rence, H, D. Humphreys, Jack
Kimbell, G. F. Chapman, II. Ft.
Frayard and L. C. Ebrite. This
walk is being built on t'ae east
side of the street and the cost
divided between the property
owners on both sides of the
street. This particular section
is 442 feet long.
The cost of a walk three feet
wide is 15c per square fooc or
45c per lineal foot. Where such
walks cross the street the cross-
ing walk will be built and main-
tained by the town. These arc
not to be concrete, however, as it
is necessary, now and then to
grade the streets, and the walks
across the streets will be made of
timber, three inches thick in
sections so that they can be
moved when grading is being
done.
Tt is hoped that other citizens
will follow the example ot the
citizens named, as we need more
concrete walks in town.
The. commencement week for
the Mesquite High School will
begin Sunday, May 11. at 11:00
a. m. with the commencement
sermon at the Presbyterian
diurch. This sermon will be
preached by Dr. Frank Seay,
Professor of New Testament
Greek and Interpretation, of the
Southern Methodist University.
Monday night, May 12, the
upils of Miss Margaret Hayes
will give a program at the Cozy
Theatre. A small dmission will
be charged to defi y the expell-
ees of preparing the program.
Tuesday night the Presbyter-
ian ladies will give a luncheon
lonoring the graduating class.
Wednesday night a Lyceum
number consisting of music and
readings will be had at the
Cozv Theatre.
Thursday night. May 15, the
Senior Class play will be given
it the Cozy Theatre. The class
has worked hard on this play
and it will well be worth seeing.
The graduating exercises
proper will be Friday night,
May 16 at the Methodist church.
The public is urged to attend.
TELEPHONE SUBSCRIBERS

liklihood, be returned to their

A Correction
Balch Springs
Early in the week it was an-
nounced that the Lyceum Num-
ber would be given Saturday
night. May 10, but the date will
be Wednesday night, May 14.
This will be a splendid program
of music and readings.
A large crowd gathered at tjje
Balch Springs school building
Saturday night for the purpose
of enjoying a community social,
however, the plans were slightly
changed for the meeting turned
out to be a Victory Loan rally.
Arch Allen and one of his soldier
friends gave some very interest-
ing addresses, also John Law-
rence made a short talk, after
which the committee succeeded
in selling $1,000 worth of bonds.
The Mesquite band furnished the
music for the evening, after
which ice cream was served to
everyone. The people of Balch
Springs especially thank the
band for their services, and of
course enjoyed the addresses
made by the excellent speakers.
Miss Sadie Harris visited Miss
Neoma Lemaster for a few days
last W(*ek.
Mrs. J. D. Leader visited her
daughter. Miss Jessie, who is
employed as one of the teachers,
for the week end.
Miss Genera Mays is visiting
relatives in Dallas this week.
The school will close Friday
with a picnic at which everyone
is invited. Games and contests
arc to furnish the amusement.
This closes a very successful
year's school work, for in spite
of the flu and much rain the
children have done good work.
A new Victrola and a number of
records have been added to the
school equipment, also quite a
number of books to the library.
The girls have a very good bask-
et bail team—out of four games
played, only one has been lost.
