STATE SECRETARY Y. M. C. A.
MAKES INTERESTING TALK
Last evening about sixty-five
yonng men came out to hear M.r
Hunter, State Secretary of the Y.
M. C. A., talk. His remarks were
centered about the word "Choice,"
which, according to Mr. Webster,
is one of the most important
words in the English language.
He observed that many students
make the most serious mistake of
their lives in not choosing right-
eousness. He strongly called at-
tention to the fact that the col-
lege man has some of the biggest
opportunities of his life during
his college days. The college
life, he said, is exactly what the
student makes it. "This college
is exactly what you want it to
be." He then called attention to
the fact that there is enough good
in everything—in gambling,' in
drinking—to offer many tempta-
tions, unless we are continually
on our guard and are striving
not for "the good" but for "the
best." The conditions of mod-
ern civilization, he said, offer very
great opportunities for "just be-
ing mediocre." The thing that
the successful man must do is to
give up the good and accept on-
ly the best.
Mr. R. L. Brewep and Prof. J.
L. McGhee met "with the young
men. Chairman May of the pro-
gram committee announced that
Prof, Gray would speak next
Thursday on "Some Lessons of
the Present War."
