Council Meets in
Spurgin Home
Mrs. Hay Kpurgin and Mrs. T. I.
Foster were hosts for the October
meeting of the Women's Council
of the First Christian church at the
Spurgin home Tuesday afternoon.
Mrs. C. E. Higgs, president, open-
ed the business meeting with a
prayer by Mrs. 1). K. Aden. The
local project committee reported
that 50 new chairs had been
bought for the dining room of the
church.
Mrs. A. V. Jones was in charge
of the missionary program on the
theme, "French Speaking People
of America, a'ul Our Mountain
Folk."
Mrs. Roy Matthews gave the his-
tory of Hazel (Jreen Academy,
Mrs. I). E. Aden read a paper on
"A New Approach to tile Mountain
Highlands," Mrs. E. ISiggs talk-
ed on "Hear, Howdy and Rest 20 j
Minutes," Mr . II. Alexander
told about the Arcadian Mission. . |
Mrs. Lolo Hurlo.-on gave the|
stewardship talk o-i "If Our
Church Envelope Could Talk,"
Mrs. Maker Matthew gave the de-
votional on tiie theme, "He i- not
far.from each one of us," based on
Acts 17:27.
The missionary benediction in
unison closed the program.

Installs Officers
The Dorcas class met Thursday
night, Sept. 22, in their Sunday
school class room at the First Bap-
tist church for the installation of
new officers for the coming year.
After a short business meeting
and discussion, Mrs. Ray Harrell
was the guest speaker for install
ing the officers. Her theme was
"Ranch Life," with the thought
that each new officer accept her
office as a ranch worker. The
new ranch hands were: Mrs. Alvin
Shults, president; Mrs. T. E.
Bailey, secretary; Mrs. Lloyd
Heard, treasurer; Mrs. hurl Buk
er, membership vice-president;
Mrs. M. E. I/odgen, fellowship
vice-president; Mrs. Dickie Den-
nis, class ministries vice-president.

Ray Harrell, Mrs. Ray Moberley,

gins Again" by William C. Kerr.
Mrs. Louis Todd gave an inter
esting discussion of the life pat-
terns of the Japanese and the
molding influences of these pat-
terns through 2,<>00 years. She
showed the expanding opportuni-
ties and needs for Christian work
in Japan.
Mrs. Joe D. Moore, president,
conducted the business session.
Mrs. Roy Hustead reported that
tile 80 Methodist Hymnals order-
ed had been received. The Guild
voted to buy 20 more. The pre.-'
iilent announced that the musii
department at McMurry college
would present a benefit musicale
at the Metho*..-; church Tuesday
evening, Oct. IK. Sirs. Carrol
Putnam, Mis. Jack Moore and Mrs.
II. W. Wallace were appointed on
the arrangement committee. The
president appointed Mrs. Carl
Kunkel, Mrs. S. II. limes and
Fronie Clausell on the Week of
Prayer program committee.
During the social hour lime
punch and cookies were served.
