The West T xa- Neon Sign Company has just been organized at
Alhaii} and started operations January 1st. V meeting of the stock-
holder- of the company was held in Fort Worth on Tuesday. Decern
her 27, and the personnel of the company given out as follows: W
R. (Bill) Nail, President; Thomas L. Blanton, Jr.. Vic>-President;
J no. II. Sedwick, Serty-Treas; Hugh Sherwood, Sales a.Mnager; W.
Graham Webb, Jr., Advertising Manager; (i. Butler and W. G.
Webb, Directors.
The West Texas Neon Sign Company ha- been appointed exclusive
distributor in 100 We-t Texa.- counties for the General Neon Sign
Corporation of Ft Worth, manufacturer.- of the famou.- NKON (SI.')
LITE I.uminiseent Tube lign-, famous now all over the world a tie
Magic Gas Sign that i- tin- electrical Marvel of tie; Vge.
The newly formed company will have its headquarter-- in Alhan;,
For the present, ten -ale-men will compose the selling tal'!' under
Mr. Sherwood. Thej will lak the road diorth aftei tin lir.-t ol the
new yeai. In addition.- to handling General Neon Sign Products, in-
cluding all outdoor -inns, the new company will handle a line of
-penalty Neon Products, Globes and Prism glass.
Although the discovery of Neon (las date- back some thirty years,
its various usages have just been recently brought out and the Neon
1 iilliitiscent signs have grown very popular in the East, on the West
coast and in the larger cities. Just recently a Neon sign was completed
in Portland, Oregon that is said to be the largest electric sign in the
world. A three story house could nestle comfortably under the cross
bar of the "H" in the sign. The monster display serves as an aerial
beacon as well as an advertisement for the Richfield Gasoline Com-
pany, for the 725 foot row of letters illuminated with Red Neon light
can be read more than 'JO miles away. Neon gas is illuminated in
three colors: Red, Blue and green. So intense is this light that Neon
advertising signs can be seen plainly in the daytime as well as night.
Another peculiarity of the new gas is that the orange red light is pe-
culiarly well able to penetrate fog. Neon light is economical and
considerable cheaper in operation than ordinary incandescent lamps,
giving the sunie amount of illumination, being an inert gns and the
glass tubes being a mm conductor. There is no possibility of explo-
sion, fire or electrical shock. The radiance of Neon light is not the
result of heat but on the contrary is cool.
The new company is very enthusiastic over the product they will
distribute over West Texas and expect a fine busines- for 1029.
