AAF in Pacific
The completion of 1,000,000
truck miles in 24 months of con-
stant service overseas, without a
major accident or a man-day lost
due to any motor mishap, is the
proud record of a 13th Quarter-
master Truck Company command-
ed by Captain Carl Reese, Hunt-
irigburg, Indiana.
The trucks in Captain Reese's
outfit- all GMCs hauled every-
thing from chemical bombs to air-
craft ammunition and wounded
men. The neatly labeled jobs
allotted to truck companies in the
I". S. don't always cover the erner-
gencie- that arise overseas. And,

The early days, when the Allie-
fought a desperate war against
overmhelming odd- in the Solo-
mon,-, were the hardest for Cap-
tain Ree-e' outfit. Home-made
part-', developed to overcome the
tight -upply -y-tem, were fre-
ipiently taken into foxhole with
the men during enemy nir raids.
They were too preciou- to leave
expo i ll to falling bomb , Captain
Ree-e decared.
Rain, glue-like mud, jagged cor-
al particle , rot arid ru t haunted
the dream of the truck company
commander. Hrake drum-, for ex-
ample, were often ,found to be
packed w ith - i11 when the big
wheel.- were removed.
