WARNS OF SAFETY

the
Racketeers have become safety
conscious.
A timely warning to all citizens
of West-Central Texas to beware
of racketeers hiding behind the
skirts of bona fide safety organiza
tions has been issued by J. C. Wat-
son, secretary of the Oil Melt Safe-
ty Council.
"I hate to admit it," Watson
commented, "but racketeers and
confidence men are beginning to
! take advantage of the goodwill
I created by regional and local safe
ty organizations."
To back up his warning he quot-
ed from a letter received last week
from the Austin Safety Council
"Racketeering i- attempting to
invade the field of safety and to
capitalize on the good intentions of
churches, civic clubs, and other
bona fide organizations," wrote J.
Donald Hill, exec itive eerctary of
tie Austin council.
"Certain parties are louring the
country posing a afely worker ,
and attempting to 'work' local cit-
izens and reputable local bodie.

Then S nmg a 'campaign' through local
council, all of which are identified
with the Texas Safety association
and the National Safety council
and with the state governmental
bodies.
"We respectfully urge that you
demand these credentials of all out
of town professional safety work-
ers before having anything to do
with them. If they are not bona
fide, then their inability to obtain
these credentials is your protec-
tion."
Watson said several citizens and
organizations of this area had been
victimized by racketeers in the
past. The Oil Helt Safety council
