For Governor!
Dear Voters
The Executive committee of the Texas Council of Voters,
alone with a sub-committee appointed by the Executive com-
mittee, met in Dallas on May 16, 1962, pursuant to call, and
mad* • study and analysis of the candidates in the run-off
primary, June 2, 1962.
After a full and free discussion of the candidates, tiieir
platforms and records, the officers and members voted to
commend the candidacy of the following persons and asked
the support of all Negro voters in Texas for the following
candidates:
Tor Governor: Don Yarborough
For Lt. Governor: James Turman
J or Attorney Oeneral: Tom Reavlev
or Congressman at-Large: Judge Woodrow Bean.
The southern politicians are attempting to do what they
have always done to minority groups; that is, divide them.
They have enlisted certain persons over the state to help
them divide us by spending large sums of money to cap-
ture the Governor's office in Texas. The Negro has been
oppressed and denied his constitutional rights and first-class
citizenship largely because the southern politicians have Deen
able to reach certain Negro leaders to help divide us.
When the Negro has split his vote, he destroys the effec-
tijKuess of The vote. If we all go to the polls and vote for
dre same candidates, our vote will be felt and will be effec-
tive in obtaining fair treatment from public officials, and
will go a long ways toward obtaining jolts for members or
