Let's Get Acquainted
Usually when there's a job to
be done in chaperonage or adult
leadership of the younger set, a
call is issued for parents to do
their duty. But not so in Bellaire.
They just call on Ted Eglin or the
"Mrs." With no children of their
own, the Eglins are "parents" to
all the youth of Bellaire, and they
are always ready to help the
youngsters out on a hayride, a
dance or a cub pack meeting.
But this story started out to be
about Ted, so we had better stick
pretty close to the subject although
it's hard to write about Ted with-
out also bringing in a lot about
Barbara Lee.
Anyway, Ted was born in
Shreveport May 15, 1905. He
moved to Houston in 1920, to West
University in 1938 and to the home
he and Mrs. Eglin now occupy at
4324 lone in Bellaire in 1943. He
is a switchman for the South-
western Bell Telephone Co., which
means he works with the electrical
phases of equipment out of the
central office.
Ted is cubmaster for Cub Pack
210 with about 35 members. He is
pretty worried just now about get-
ting enough den mothers to help
carry on the work for next season.
Den mothers have to have a spe-
cial flair with boys and be really
interested in cubbing to make a
success of this vital post. (He
would be ever so happy if some
mothers or non-mothers who aro
interested would volunteer to help
keep the pack going.)

bara Lee is an awful good tele-
phoncr-upper-of-Lions (we warned
you it was going to be hard to
keep her out of this), but when-
ever there's a job to be done in
contacting members or selling ads
for a program or preparing a cov-
ered dish supper, some one is sure
to suggest that Mrs. Eglin is just
the one for the task.
Ted's hobby of wood carving is
put to particularly good use, as
he spends part of his spare time
teaching this handicraft at the tu-
berculosis hospital. (Here goes the
"Mrs." cropping up again. She
teaches at the hospital, too, in-
structing in the art of crepe paper
handicraft.)
Ted is lion tamer in the Bellaire
Lions Club, is adult chairman of
the Bellaire Recreation Club for
young people, a member of the
Bellaire Presbyterian church and
of the Men's Club.
Important members of the house-
hold are Toots and Tinkle, those
two toy terriers that are the de-
light of every cub of Pack 210.

Wally was passing cigars around
to his fellow-workers. He proudly
announced that he had just re-
ceived a bundle from heaven. "Boy
or girl?" asked his secretary.
"Neither," replied Wally. "My
