TO BE FINISHED SOON
One of the next major buildings scheduled for completion in The
Village is the structure above which will house the Food Bank. Loca-
ted in the 5400 block of Kelvin Drive, the building, when completed,
will afford patrons the rental of refrigerated boxes for the storage of
food. 1
Building Boom--
(Continued from Page 1)
The Food Bank on Kelvin Drive
between Rice Boulevard and Times.
This building, to be operated by
Grady Smith, will house a com-
plete frozen food locker with chill
room, processing room, quick
freeze room and a locker room.
Another building on which work
i? progressing rapidly is being
erected in the 2400 block of Rice
Boulevard by J. Edw. Farrington
and will probably be finished in
December. This beautiful moder-
nistic building will have space for
four units and will be completely
air conditioned. Mr. Farrington
will operate a modern appliance
store in the building. Consolidated
Frozen Food Lockers will have a
specially designed space with an
up-to-the-minute locker room for
the storage of all types of frozen
fo( ds. Processing will be done at
Cons< lidated's central plant. Tay-
lor's Book Shop, now located at
2429 University Boulevard, will
occupy one space and Mode'O Day
the other.
The largest building project in
The Village is being put on by
Olson Bros. A. E. and John Olson
are constructing buildings in the
2600 block of Amherst, at the cor-
ner of Kirby Drive and Times
Boulevard, in the 2400 block of
Rice Boulevard and in the 2500
block of Times Boulevard. Rod-
ney's, a shop for men and boys,
will be in the Kirby Drive Build-
ing. Among the other establish-
ments will be One's A Meal,
Schep's Ready-to-Wear, a grocery
store, gift shop, radio and record
shop and other first-class business
houses.
Early this year ground was
broken for a building in the 2500
block of Rice with Wm. H. Levy,
Sam W. Levy and A. M. Bogart
as owners.
Projects scheduled for the fu-
ture in The Village are a building
for Cobb's package store on the
corner of Rice and Kelvin, one to
be built by J. R. Ellis in the 2400
block of Rice and an A & P store
on Morningside at Times.
Aside from The Village, most of
the business construction fringes
on the outskirts of the South-
western section with a goodly por-
tion of new construction being
erected on Bissonnet, Old Rich-
mond Road and Bellaire Boulevard.
Recently completed or nearing
completion on Bissonnet is the May
Weatherstrip Company, Davis
Sheet Metal Company, the Sani-
tary Laundry, the Bentley Sport-
ing Goods Company and the Rite-
Way Foundation Drilling Co.
On Old Richmond Road is Park-
N-Packum, a grocery concern, and
a site has been selected there for
a new $250,000 modern community
center.
Bellaire Boulevard boasts sev-
eral recent businesses included in
which is the Barnhill Plumbing
firm, Art Flower Shop and the
National Instrument Company.
Located on Kirby Drive is the
Redwood Awning Company which
just recently opened for business
and a building which is now under
construction belonging to Arnold
Ahrens which will house a hard-
ware and sporting goods concern.
J. Roy Jones, president of The
Village Association, is erecting a
new building on Robinhood, just
off Kirby Drive, to house his bus-
iness, the Superior Distributing
Company.
