affair, is the largest commercial construction in any of the three incorporated cities of the Southwestern
section.

That's what I told Jim, in no uncertain terms,
one day last week! Our meal planning wasn't
hard to solve, though, when I found out about
Weldon Cafeteria. The pleasant atmosphere, the
soft, continuous dinner music, and the friendly
young ladies that carried our trays ... all com-
bined to make our dinner an outstanding success.
Jim thinks I'm just about tops as a cook . . . but,
frankly, I can't hold a candle to Weldon's expert
chefs who make each dish an inviting delight. So,
don't let your mealtime become dull and matter-
of-fact . . . enjoy your dinner at Weldon's.

Shell Laboratory
To Devise Methods
For Oil Exploration
The structural steel is now be-
ing placed in the largest commer-
cial building within the confines of
the three Incorporated cities in
the Southwestern section—the $1,-
000,000 Shell Oil Company labora-
tory which is being constructed in
the 3700 block of Bellaire Boule-
vard in the smallest of the three
cities, Southside Place.
Dedicated to furthering modern
methods in the exploration for oil,
the new laboratory may well some-
day write a new chapter in the
long annals of man's search for
the black gold which lies buried in
the earth. A far cry from the not-
so-ancient methods used only 20
years ago, the discoveries which
come from the laboratory may well
revolutionize the searching for oil-
bearing formations.
Company officials point to the
development of nitration grade
toluene, used in TNT, as a result
of research and experiment. So
was the discovery of butadiene,
chief component of one type of
synthetic rubber. These products,
turned out in great quantities dur-
ing the war by America's refin-
eries, were important factors in
winning the war. Thus, the new di-
vision of the oil company was crea-
ted with the belief that the same
type of research can with success
be applied to the problems of lo-
cating new stores of oil and bring-
ing more of it to the surface with
greater efficiency.
The building, which is expected
to be completed this winter, will
house at the start 130 scientists
and technicians in addition to 75
who will work in the existing build-
ing. The present structure will be
used for work in the designing
and manufacture of special explo-
ration and production instruments.
Officials say that the new build-
ing will be of modern but- simple
design and a credit to the section,
not only because of its outside ap-
pearance but because of the type
of activity that will be going on
inside its walls.
When revolutionizing methods
in oil field location and explora-
tion astound the industrial world,
they can, perhaps, be traced di-
rectly to Southside Place!
