The HELLCAT NEWS
495th AFA BN NEWS
HI FOLKS ... It may be a
little soon but no matter how
you look at it we are one
month nearer to next reunion
time. Still haven't 'gotten oveir
the last one yet. I've been slip-
ping a little lately but as soon
as we get our new home
straightened out I'll get on the
ball. Been trying to level off
the front so we can get the
sod in before winter. While
working at it I keep singing
one of our ifavorite songs of
days gone by, "I Had A Good
Home and I Left."
Let's welcome some of our
good buddes who have joined
the association for the first
time. From "A" Btry. we have
Russ Broaddus and Larry (John-
son, from "B" Btry. we have
"Wild" Bill Gibson and from
"HQ" we have none other than
Lt. Col. Adam Payne. Good to
have you all with us and now
let's hear from you guys.
Here are a couple of instan-
ces that make our association
what it is today. First of all
I might mention that the 495th
was always a close knit outfit.
Keeping in touch with each
other through the years is pay-
ing off now in many respects.
Bill Draheim received a call
from Clint Seitz who was visit-
ing with Jane and the kids in
Clearwater, Fla. Clint gave him
a good account of all the hap-
penings in Louisville and now
Bill is looking forward to a
reunion that he will be able to
attend. We sure hope it is soon.
Ben Eide is leaving for the
V.F.W. convention in Cleveland.
By golly there is no reason why
you shouldn't be able to visit
your old buddies in 1965 too.
Ben extends an open invitation
to his Hellcat buddies and their
families to stop by anytime
when in Minneapolis. The way
things have been going Ben
don't be surprised iif you do
get company. Our best to your
son who will be returning home
from overseas in October. He
will have finished his four year
enlistment. Like father, like
son.
We have already heard from
one of the youngsters Janet
Strubbe who is passing the
word around about the ifun the
young ones have at our re-
unions and she is looking for-
ward to the next one. She
would like to see more of you
parents bring your youngsters
along. The same goes for Ja-
mie Lew Ostraat and Randy.
Randy and Vic Challen's daugh-
ter were very good companions
during the teen-age shindig and
while farewells were being said
the day of everyone's departure.
We chewed Art Worth out
for not getting Larry Johnson
into the association. He must
have taken it to heart because
he stopped on his way home and
signed Larry up. Another mis-
sion accomplished. Well done
Art. Do you know that Art was
the first 'guy Larry had seen
since he left the outfit. Just
shows you how many potential
members we can add if we can
just reach them. Hope to have
a little written up of the "ilittle
reunion" the Worths, Johnsons
and iMielniks had in Indiana for
the next issue of the Hellcat
News.
We have always felt that this
column belongs as much to the
Hellcat families as it does to
us old codgers so I would like
to take this opportunity to
compliment Adele Gibson o n
the two fine daughters she has
in Mary Lisa and Henrietta.
Both fine young ladies, very
sociable and very polite. We
were very proud to have met
them.
As usual, it's about that time
of the year when we hear from
Frank Hoffman. He says "hel-
lo" to all, everything is "A"
O.K. and look for a change of
address.
Our good buddy Bob Saehloff
is always thinking of something
to add lustre to the 495th. This
time he came up with a hu-
morous illustration that he
would like to see the 495th
sponser. It is a Christmas
greeting ad that would be in
the Christmas issue of the
Hellcat News. The ad is al-
ready prepared with an appro-
priate field artillery illustra-
tion. To have your name listed
in this ad, all you have to do
is to send a contribution not to
exceed $3.00 to Joe Mielnik and
tell him how you want your
name or family name listed.
The fellows who attended the
Louisville reunion had hoped
to cover the cost otf this greet-
ing but weekend expenses used
up all but $2.00 of the pool.
Well Robert here goes, let's give
it a try.
Lloyd Sheehy has been laid
up for awhile and is slowy re-
cuperating. How about some of
you guys directing some cards
to 7 Fraser, Yale, Mich. If all
goes well there is no reason
why we shouldn't see him in
Cleveland next year.
Have been anxious to hear
from Leo Maraj and find out
how he made out on his trip
to the East coast. I also have
a little recruiting job for him.
Speaking of recruiting, let's go
back through some of our old
correspondence and send in all
the addresses you have. Better
yet, contact them yourself and
get them to join up.
We have a good start on our
family album and our reunion
album. You can make it even
better by sending in more pic-
tures. All you fellows that were
in Louisville should write to the
Hellcat News in order to let the
other members know what a
ball we had. You can also write
to me and I will relay your
message. Would like to hear
from you folks anyway. Well
that is it for now. Be Good,
Take Care and God Bless You
All.

P.S. TO KEN WARNES:— In
Cleveland, no hesitation, soon
as we meet we're going to the
nearest bar and have the best
"double" in the place.
Don R. Walker (MED/7114) 8122
Menticello Circle, Westminster,
Calif. 92683:—"Note the new ad-
dress. Things have really been
in a big uproar-huying a new
home-moving, etc. trying to find
where I put this or that. Not
quite like moving out in black-
out in the middle of the night.
Remember? Graib your shoes
and pants, roll up your bedroll
and your gone. Spent part of the
Labor Day weekend with the
Joe Jesse ns and mutual friends.
I was an anniversary (for them
and we had a wonderful time.
Had a few glasses of that stuff
Reims is famous for - Bubble
Water." Ed. note: Good luck in
your new home Don.
Elmer J. Hull (SV/66) (12 Wil-
low St. Batavia, N.Y.: — "Sorry
to be late with my dues but
here they are. Will try to iget the
addresses of two buddies inter-
ested in the association and for-
ward them on to you."
STUMPED FOR AN
XMAS GIFT IDEA?
For those of you who may
be stumped for an idea of
what to buy a Hellcat who
has everything we have a few
suggestions.
In the way of something new
to offer, the association will
have for sale a limited num-
ber of cigaret lighters at $2.50,
tie clips at $2.00, matching cuff
links at $3.00 and key chains
at $2.00. All these items have
the 12th Armored Division in-
signia. Can you think of any-
thing that would be more wel-
come to a Hellcat who has
everything?
We also have a number of
lapel pins for $1.00, car plates
for $1.50 and decals at 25c each
of five for $1.00.
Last but not least we of
course have association mem-
berships available if or $3.00
which would ibe a most wel-
come and cherished gift to any
former Hellcat who may not
have a membership.
If any of these suggestions
appeal to you send in your re-
quest as soon as possible be-
cause before you know it
Christmas will be rolling around
and with the volume of mail
increasing because of the holi-
days we would like to fill your
order as soon as possible.

Frigidaire Corporation in Day-
ton, Ohio for a lovely wife and
four ramlbuncious children. Am

active in the V.F.W."
Mike Burgos (B/714) 74 Gar-
field Place, Brooklyn 15, N.Y.:
—"Hope I'm not too late with
my dues as I wouldn't want to
miss any of the issues. Best re-
