enjoying the cool blue water. Last
fall our sixth grandchild was born
in Germany; we've not had an
opportunity to spoil her yet.
Eldest son is making a career of
military and is on his third tour in
Germany; anticiapte their return
in June, 1984. Other two sons still
in New Jersey; one still lives at
home, other about five miles
away. Our best to all, Ruth and
Tom Schlauch."
Then I had this note from Dom
Aeillo (C): "Dear Dan, I am sorry
you had to let me know that I am
delinquent. I have been in and out
of the hospital; they found out
that I am diabetic along with
everything else. When you get old
that's the way it goes. I am
sending a check for two years
dues. Say, do you know anything
about Rose, or Sgt. Way who used
to be Mess Sgt.?"
Another late one: "Dear Dan,
just received your delinquent no-
tice. I wondered why I never
received my membership card,
now I know. Stella really thought
she had sent it out with the
monthly bills so I guess it was an
oversight on her part. She is
sorry about that Dan; anyway a
check is on the way. I look
forward to the news each month.
Well, Thanksgiving is this week
and my son and family are coming
from Vermont; also my daughter
and family and one of my brothers,
so we will have a houseful. I hope
you and Margaret can have some
of your family together for a nice
holiday. The weather has been in
the 50's all month here but expect
it to drop soon. I have been laid
off two weeks now; unemploy-
ment is bad around here also.
Thanks for sending the insignia; it
was very nice. Stella sends her
best regards to you and Margaret
and wishes from both of us for a
happy holiday, Ed Sea (A)."
I wish to state again that at
times correspondence from you
fellows arrives too late for that
month's column and must be held
over for the next one. Margaret
tries to keep me on my toes and
not let anything get buried on my
neat desk.
Haven't heard from this fellow
for quite some time and it sure
was good to get his letter (4
Nov.). "Dear Dan; I always enjoy
your column; you do a great job.
So glad you found Marvel Row-
land for a helper. I've thought of
writing several times, but it
seems that I don't have much to
say. We have a pleasant and busy
life here and in Indiana. Mary
Frances is busy with her hobby
club and church work, me with
golf and church work and both of
us with cards (mostly bridge) and
volunteering at the hospital. We
did get to the World's Fair; took a
4-day AAA tour from Cincinnati
and had a real good time. After
the first day, I walked around on
two numb stubs - no feeling in my
legs or feet. I am definitely
planning on Nashville. I'll be
seventy and don't know how
many more years I'll feel like
going; right now, I feel like I'm
good for another ten years. Hope
John McMahon recovered okay. I
wish I could have seen the A Co
guy at St. Louis. Best regards,
Mary Frances and A. P. Clarkson
(A)."
Norb, myself and Floyd Peck
(C) have finally resolved the
mixup in his membership dues but
to be on the safe side Floyd sent
another check and he is now
credited as being paid through
83/84. Here is part of his letter to
me: "Since I am a new member
there are lots of things I don't
know and hope you can answer
them for me. Have you ever been
to an Eastern Chapter Meeting?
The reason I ask is there were so
many fellows from the east. I was
wondering about going to the
Eastern Meeting, thinking I
would see more from the 56th
there. We have been busy getting
ready for Thanksgiving and then
our only granddaughter is to be
married the 27th; it will keep me
on the run for a few days. Best
regards, Floyd Peck (C)."
Since Floyd is a new member
Margaret checked on our past
copies of HCN to find the Chapter
Meetings reports of last year and
I will send these to Floyd, giving
him some idea of who attends. I
do plan to be at the Midwest
Chapter and also Margaret and I
are planning on the Western
Chapter Meeting. For all you
fellows on the West Coast, take
notice that it will be held in
February (a change from May)
and I do hope that it will spur
some of you to be there. We
always have fun with door prizes
so don't forget to bring one along;
doesn't have to be expensive. I
also hope that the weather co-
operates and we do not exper-
ience the kind that has just hit
(28, 29 Nov). It hit us on Tuesday
afternoon (Nov. 30) with rain and
heavy winds, took part of my
carport. Yesterday rain turned to
snow and the mountains behind us
are blanketed; but today (2 Dec.)
the sun is shining brightly and our
two inches of snow are melting
fast. Can't be too fast for Mar-
garet or I - had enough of that

Arthur Brewer - B is retired
with bad health after 15 years in
the Postal Service and 17 years of
home building (it only took me
four years to build mine). Had
lung cancer operation in 1954 and
thanks GOD for his good luck
there. Now has heart and high
blood pressure problems. Arthur
lost his wife, age 36, in June,
1962. He is proud of his two sons
and has one granddaughter.
Joe Cook let his subscription
lapse and sent the renewal to the
wrong unit 714, George Moss,
who forwarded it to me. Joe
would like the HCN for July and
August.
Bill and Marcella Cannon had a
short visit from Gene and Bea
Raddant, both from Hq 66th. It
was great and wished it could
have been longer.
Leo Maurer is still doing auto
work, body mechanics, in Little
Falls, Minn. Wife, Marie, is an
instructional aid at school. They
\
pretty white stuff back in MA and
are now confirmed warm weather
persons.
Promised to take Margaret to
Tucson tomorrow (3 Dec) for
Christmas shopping and so unless
something turns up in this after-
noon's mail, I have finished this
column, and it will be mailed out
tomorrow. Hope you all had a
very pleasant holiday season.
have 21 grandchildren - 9 boys
and 12 girls, who keep their lives
from getting dull. Had a new
granddaughter in October and
twin granddaughters in August,
and can't tell them apart. Plans to
make another reunion. 21 is pro-
bably a record and is a sign for all
slackers like myself (5 total) to
get busy.
Dale Matheny is sorry to have
missed St. Louis but wife, Kay,
had a badly infected foot. They
hope to make '83. Joe and Ruth
Palmerie spent Sunday, 7-11-82,
with the Matheny's.
Mrs. Dorothy Walton has a new
ZIP at 1094 Steffanic Dr., Billings,
Mt. 59105.
Leon Zitske missed the reunion
but is planning on the next one.
Leon still has the tavern in Bear
Creek Wis., and again invites any
12 AD fellows in for a few free
drinks. Stand back, here comes
the crowd.
Left over from last time: Sam
Smith - C says he needs the EAST
put back into his address as the
street has both East and West.
Sam and Cherry just got back
from Europe (Aug 16, *82) visited
England, France, Belgium, Hol-
land, Denmark, East Germany,
East and West Berlin, Austria,
Italy, Switzerland, Southern
France, Paris and back to London.
The inflation is something else,
soda water there is more than
wine here (who washes with soda
water). They bought two little "T"
shirts for nephews at 5,000 lire
apiece. Still recovering from jet
lag.
Note from President Bob Head
and Betty Lou. Bob received this
from Lloyd Eneix of the Med/66.
Dear Bob: "A note to let you
know that the 12th AD received
another D. S. C Medal, awarded
Posthumously to PFC Roland
Gustustaon, Medical Aid Man
with Co. A 66th AIB. Roland was
killed going to the aid of a
wounded man of A Co about Dec
8, 9, 10, 1944. The award was
recommended by Capt. Donald
Day, Company Commander of Co.
A. The award did not come
through until after the war was
over. Lloyd read the directive
while on CQ in Ellwangen or
Heidenheim after they were send-
ing men of the 12th to other
divisions. Maybe someone out
there can fill more of the details.
His name (Roland's) may be spell-
ed wrong. As reported earlier,
Capt Donald Day died in March of
1982.
