A big welcome to our newest
member, Gerald Napolitano, Sv.
Czeiner contacted Gerry, told him
about our Association and paid his
dues for the first year. If you guys
from Service want to drop him a
line his address is: 98 Johnson
Avenue, Bloomfield, N. J. 07003.
Czeiner also tried to contact
another old acquaintance from
Service, Jake Porciello. Jake and
Frank once visited Paris together.
Frank talked with Ruth Porciello
and learned that Jake passed
away last January 17 from a heart
condition that had bothered him
for several years. As far as we
know Jake was never a member
of the Association and now we
were just a few months too late
contacting him.
I received 82-83 dues from John
Wiseman (B), who lives ig Mur-
freesboro, Tenn. His address is:
Rt 6, Wimbledon Drive and the
zip is 37130. It would be great if
some of you B guys would contact
him. Arbuckle, he should be a
candidate for your reunion com-
mittee.
I got back an envelope address-
ed to Leonard S. Feit, P.O. Box
231, Cable, WI 54821 with a note
that he died October 20, 1980. I
believe Feit was in Charlie Bat-
tery.

Dorrell commented that he is
having his problems from the
effects of Parkinson's disease,
which he developed a couple years
ago. He was 71 in September but
plans to attend the reunions in
Nashville and Denver for sure.
W. D. "Buck" Jones wrote a
very interesting letter. Everyone
who was in the 493rd at Camp
Campbell will remember our bat-
talion C. O., Col. Barry D.Browne.
Buck was recently reading John
Eisenhower's book, "The Bitter
Woods". In the book there is a
detailed account of the fighting in
and around Bastogne during the
"Battle of the Bulge". The sit-
uation was so desperate that a
group of artillerymen from the
420th A.F.A. was used as front-
line infantrymen. Their C. 0. was
Col. Browne and they were known
as "Team Browne". Col. Browne
was wounded on December 23rd
and was killed later when a bomb
hit a building that was used as a
field hospital. Over the years
several people have told me about
this book but I have never read it.
Now, I am determined to locate a
copy.
Buck said his daughter recently
visited the American cemetary at
Omaha Beach in Normandy where
over 9,000 G. I.s are buried. She
was also at Bastogne where the
"nuts" museum is under con-
struction. Buck also recommends
a book by Guy Franz Arends
which gives both the American
and German versions of the fight-
ing at Bastogne. Thanks, Buck,
for all this information. I'm sure a
lot of members will be interested.
Edward Webb (A/43) wrote
requesting some information. He
was in battery C for a while and
reads our column every month.
He is trying to contact Lawrence
Ament, Francis Beckman and
Maurice Shaw. I sent Ed the
addresses in my records. By now I
hope you guys are in contact with
each other.
Ed Strazdes (C/56) wrote to
make sure that we knew of Bill
Murray's death on October 23rd.
It had already been reported and
should be in the December News.
Anyway, thanks Ed for thinking
about us.
Celestine Staab sent dues and a
nice booster. He wants to say
hello to John Carlson and his
buddy Bill Jones. He also said he
hopes the Gossers are enjoying
Florida. You'd better believe it,
Staab.
Bob Mixell sent dues and a
short note. They hope to catch us
in Nashville next summer. I be-

A Cheery Hello to All
Hope that all of the 494th have
remembered to send in their dues!
Your dues are the difference
between reading the news of your
buddies and friends in the Hellcat
News or wondering what is hap-
pening to them. If you have not
already sent in your dues, do it
now!
Ham and Mary Rexroat (B):
Just a few words to say "Hello".
Received our first snow but it did
not stay on the ground long. Sure
dreading winter. We're both still
working, can't afford to retire.
Best wishes to all.
Ray and Annamae Hicks (Hq):
Ray has not been well this year,
but still works most of the time.
We still hope to make the Nash-
ville reunion. Our son Richard
lives at home and drives 130 miles
lieve Mix was gunner in the 2nd
section of A battery. They fired
the first round for the 12th
Armored Division on December
5th, 1944. We were near Weiss-
lingen, reinforcing the 217th F. A.
I'm sure none of us will forget
that first day and night in combat
but I'm not positive now who all
was in that second section. Fill me
in, you guys.
Today, while I was writing this
column, I got a long, newsy letter
from the Wolcotts. They are 0. K.
and made their sixth visit to the
World's Fair during the last week
of the operation. They hope to get
to Epcot this winter.
We have about 25 members due
to be dropped for non-payment of
dues. I got their names from Norb
Bruemmer and wrote to all of
them. We sure don't want to lose
anyone but the decision is up to
them.
You will probably be reading
this column right after the first of
the new year. Although I'm a few
days late, I want to wish all of you
a HEALTHY AND HAPPY NEW
YEAR.
