REUNION REPORT
Did you know? Charlotte was
first settled by Scotch Irish in
the 1740's. In 1768, Charlotte
was incorporated and named
for Queen Charlotte, wife of
King George III. The county
was named for the German
principality of Mecklenburg,
home of Queen Charlotte. On
May 20, 1775, the Mecklenburg
Declaration of Independence
was written and signed. In
1795, James K. Polk the 11th
President of the U.S. was born,
12 miles south of Charlotte. In
1799, gold was discovered in
Mecklenburg county by Conrad
Reed. In 1836, the first branch
of the U.S. Mint opened in up-
town Charlotte. During the civil
war, it was used as a Confeder-
ate Headquarters, hospital and
Assay office.
Charlotte Motor Speedway,
America's premiere NASCAR
facility is home to the Coca-
Cola 600, the Winston and Cham-
pion Filter 300, the Oakwood
Homes 500 and All Pro Auto
Parts 300. View racing memor-
abilia from the past and pre-
sent. See behind the scenes of
the speedway grounds. Visit the
Winston Theater for a multivis-
ual presentation of the speed-
ways history.

PRESIDENT'S
REPORT
TO ALL HELLCATS AND
HELLKITTENS
By the time you receive this
issue of the "Hellcat News"
several of our chapter meetings
have been held and hope that
all of you that attended had a
great time with all our friends.
All of these chapter meetings
are like a family group meeting
and offer us a chance to get
together with our friends from
all units. I hope that all of you
have made your plans for our
44th reunion in Charlotte and
that we will have a great turn-
out.
One of our members has made
a suggestion that you might
want to consider. Since many
of us have lost our wives over
the years and we attend the
meetings and reunions by our-
selves, it has been suggested
that some individuals might be
able to come to our reunions if
they could share a double room
and share the room cost with
another buddy. This would cut
the cost of each member for the
room charge and in this way,
increase the attendence to the
reunions.
May I suggest that if you
want to share a double room
with another buddy in Char-
lotte, send your name and
address to our editor, and he
will show your name and ad-

dress in the next issue of the
HCN. Then you could contact
the individual and work out a
deal to share the room. This
would be a separate action on
your part to work out the de-
tails with the other buddy and
one of you would make the
room reservation for the two of
you.
I would also like to request to
those of you that have not
ordered Volume II of our His-
tory Book to get your orders in
now as time is running out.
SEE YOU IN CHARLOTTE
